I don’t know what the beef is with the 4th gear stuff.
Didn’t Top Gear do the same years ago with the Evo MQ400? It’s a bit pointless but does show how a car with higher boost threshold works. The S58 absolutely needs higher RPM than the N55. No question. I suppose the conversation about the automatic being “better suited” to it is what hits the nerve. It’s not even a matter to be discussed. One wants a manual, another wants an auto. In the same vein we don’t want a Tesla just because it’s quicker, buying an auto just because it’s quicker is just as dumb. |

Some people switched their orders purely because of this misunderstanding. Those people may have in fact been happier with a manual, if they had all the information and a clear view of the real pros and cons. That's why I keep saying "misleading", I'm trying to make it clear that this possibly did HARM to low-information viewers who took away a FALSE understanding, and possibly spent money. Better to provide NO information rather than harmful information. |

And yes, maybe it's a "dumb ytube video who cares." But I care, I care that people are well informed and that material is good material. Even if it's silly stuff like luxury cars.
Maybe I was an editor in a previous life, dunno. |

I will respectfully disagree that people would be happier in a manual if they had the information. And here’s why: if people can be happy with an auto, they’ll be happy with an auto. For manual drivers, there is no substitute. Even a broken transmission is better than an auto. I always say this and it is fitting in this case: if one is in doubt about whether they should get an auto or a manual, they should get an auto. |

53 and driving manuals most of my life. If I never drive another manual I won't lose a minute of sleep. Unless you live in the country they're boring, and even stupid in execution, but if it's what keeps you engaged while driving then that's all that matters. Afterall, I'm sure there would be a market today for rotary landlines.
"Does anyone think a base car should beat a CS?" The performance version of a new generation...maybe...yes? Isn't the new M240i competitive with the previous M2C? Hell, the M240i isn't even an M car. And speaking of M240i and G87, when are we going to see a race between a M240i xDrive with JB4 and a downpipe vs. a stock G87? Pretty sure the G87 will get spanked. Or how about a stock M240i xDrive vs. a stock G87 auto 0-60 and 1/4 (make it fair, the manual G87 will probably get embarrassed)? I'm one of those guys that used to say 0-60 and 1/8 or 1/4 were stupid. The track's where it's at. But the real world is 0-60 and 1/8; too much $$$ is spent on consumables for the track just to get passed by a gutted '90's Honda Civic hatchback, not to mention damage done to paint and windshields. A modded G87 would make for great highway rolls, but hitting those speeds on a regular basis is asking for trouble, especially when you have an employer that gets notified the minute you're arrested. If you've got a G87 and you're not modding it to 700-800 HP, then shame on you. |

I mean, cool of Thomas to respond since he’s a
- fellow canuck - fellow enthusiast - fellow track driver - fellow BMW owner (he belongs here just because of this fact) But they’re not stupid. They know they can’t win against the Internet. So their response is well calculated I think. Forums are always a pissing match and a time drain (I should know). Good for those who can say their piece and stay away lol |

Can someone share some thoughts on why the new M2 has lower lap time per TH than the F87 CS? I am not familiar with the F87 platform besides its specs, but the spec of the G87 is pretty much match the F87 CS, save for the weight figures, so I am having hard time understanding.
Thank you in advance. |

G87 has about the same power, similar adaptive suspension components, significantly more tires, improved suspension geometry, and manual-to-manual. Just because of the tires, I would have hoped it would be as fast if not faster than the F87 CS. Obviously, I was wrong. I am trying to understand the differences, related to one being named "CS", that make the F87 faster. |
