Ride Stiffness - F87 vs G42 vs G87
Hey folks, curious for people's thoughts on ride stiffness across these three cars.
I test drove a 2018 M2 and frankly found it to stiff for the poor roads I drive on. I ended up getting a G42, which has very comfortable ride, but I desperately miss the engagement of a manual transmission. Before I commit to a G87 I would love to know how the ride compares to the above. I assume it is somewhere in between with the adaptive dampers? Thanks! |

I can't comment on the ride relative to the G42.
However, I can share my thoughts after making a 2000 mile road trip. In both cities and highways, I found the adaptive damping quite good. It absorbed cracks and bumps well at both city and highway speeds. The longest legs of the trips were two 12-hour drives of about 800 miles each. I felt comfortable during the drives and didn't have any notable body pain afterwards. Nor did I notice any problems driving on city roads. Oddly, speed bumps at low speed unsettled the car a lot, but other than that I have no complaints on the ride. OK, the engine noise can get to be a bit much after 12 hours, which is hilarious because it's fake but can't be turned off. lol. |

F87 M2C is one of the most hardcore BMWs I've ever driven, stock-wise. G82 felt like an S-class compared to that, and they drive pretty similar to G87. I think you have your answer right there.

The G87 is a little stiffer than the G42, but not as stiff as the F87. I would say somewhere in between, but closer to the G42 than the F87.
But the difference is how suspensions work, the G87 is softer than the F87 but the rebound is much more controlled so the car is always more glued to the ground despite being softer. |

I owned G42 with adaptive suspension on my extended demos I thought there is a noticeable difference- exactly what I was looking for but I wouldn’t describe the G87 as too harsh but I am used to sports suspension. Haven’t driven F87

The F87 is extremely stiff.
The G42 rides comfortably, but planted. The G87 sits perfectly in the middle - and I have the M HAS.

The G87 does it all beautifully, incredible balance, comfortable enough for the missus to snooze on a long drive and a proper sports car on any back road, and that's without even going into Sports or Sports plus on the chassis. It just gets better. |

My better half thought the F87 was too bouncy and occasionally would get disappointed when I wanted to take us out in it.
I’ve since sold it, but I really miss that car. I’m on the list for a G87, but this time it will actually be her daily driver. She’s super worried it will be bouncy and she’ll hate it. So good to hear it’s better than the F87. |

I did 50,000km in an F87 Comp. I swapped over to the G87 2 weeks ago. Even in sport mode the G87 is significantly more compliant than the comp. Definitely no bouncing.

My car is bouncy as f*@k and I was ready to bail on it. Finally got on the floor a little while ago, and the rear shipping blocks are still on. Of course I'm pi$$ed at myself for taking 650 miles to get my butt onto the floor to look under the car. The question is, how pi$$ed should I be with the dealer? Seems like a big F up to me. What other items did they fail to perform during the PDI? UGH!
So for those of you with bouncy cars, get on the floor and look for the blue shipping blocks on the suspension.
