18" Wheel Square fitment guidance
Looking to get a square setup for a winter set. Searching here and calling a few vendors, I haven't been able to find an answer.
My MY24 M2 is on order, expecting delivery Nov/Dec and trying to be get with my winter shoes. Here's the question; Would any of these two setups fit squarely? From what I'm readying, I should be ok with the front but the rear I may have a hard time clearing the break pins? Thanks in advance! Option 1:

Also your grip in non-snow/ice is going to be horrible. Lastly, your wheel/tire combo is going to be so sunken into the wheel well its going to look REALLLY bad, IMO. Unless you plan on running 30MM spacers... Last edited by RandomBro; 10-04-2023 at 04:33 PM.. |

I'm not sure how much asthetics plays into your decision making, but 19 inch 245s would be the absolute smallest rim/tire I would run. 19x9 wheel. 18 inch 245 on stock height is legit going to look REALLLLY bad, id be surprised if you didn't think that also after putting that combo on.
The wheel and tire combo would still be super sunken into the wheel well without spacers/lowering. The reason you want to be as close to stock diameter is both for speedo and overall fitment. I personally would not want the car to look crazy off. But you could care more about function over form. |

Very much so. Doing unintended peelouts on dry pavement is awkward.
Assuming you clear the fitment, I guess it won't be the end of the world. I still wouldn't do it. I generally don't downsize more than 20mm from OEM when I use winters. While narrower width helps, most of the snow traction is from the tire's compound and tread pattern. Over-focusing on the width isn't worth it, IMO. And yes, you want the diameter to match stock. Traction control computers sometimes get real twitchy if you change diameter too much. |

We make an M2-compatible 18" fitment, but it's a wide 10.5" wheel with an ET18 offset for track use. It wouldn't be suitable for a winter wheel option where you want relatively narrow tires. That is the setup linked on the car further up this thread.
A word of caution though, the OE brakes on the M2 are fairly large. We had to go through a few revisions to clear them with our 18 and even then it was right at the edge of our acceptable margin for brake clearance with our optimized forged barrels. This is fine for a dry weather track wheel, but if there is a chance of ice building up inside the wheel when driving in snow or lots of road debris from gravel put down by a city to provide traction during storms you might get scratching between the barrel of an 18" wheel and the calipers. We sell a few 19" options including a 19x9.5 ET25 that can be run square with 265/35-19 winter tires. Thats probably what I would run if I was choosing a winter fitment for a G87 but 19s in general will give you more room around the caliper. If you do end up going with aftermarket 18s, make sure the wheel manufacturer has done their homework and confirmed the wheel clears the brakes. -Tom

This!!! The clearance on the 18's around the caliper is very tight would not reccomend for a snow wheel even though if its for a dedicated snow/winter wheel setup. 19x8.5 or 9 square would be feasible, and you would gain some sidwall over the oem 20 in the rear. probably best bet. I am thankful that Apex makes such a great product that works so exceedingly well for our application. Well engineered. -GT3M2 |

What options do you have on 19x9 or 19x9.5? I'm convinced by my fellow friends here that 19x9+ is the way to go. Would like to stay between a 255/255 max. Also keep in mind, being my winter setup I really don't want to dish out crazy $$$ either. Do you have a complete package available? Rim+tire-tpms-cap |

Well I found these! The 245 on a 9.5" wheels is on the low end, not sure about it.

In theory we have a 19x9 ET25 forged VS-5RS, 19x9 ET28 flow formed SM-10 that may work pending those checks. For the wider wheels, we have 19x9.5 ET25 Forged VS-5RS, SM-10RS, and Flow formed SM-10 which I've already confirmed brake clearance on. Either of those wheel widths could support a 255 section tire. The 9" wide wheel would be better for the 245 from a tire sidewall standpoint. Spacers would be needed with most of these setups for a more flush fitment, but might not be required for clearance (unless they're needed for brakes with the 9). We can't currently sell mounted tire sets/tires in general. We can sell the wheels and TPMS sensors. The wheels come by default with our black centercaps, but you can buy OE BMW roundels from us or use wheel caps from your factory wheels in our wheels as a direct fit swap. -Tom

You gain about 6mm of ground clearance with the 255/40-19 winter tyres compared with the stock 275/35-19 summer tyres, a little bit more clearance is good from a snow perspective. With our old F22 M240i I upsized from 225/40-18 / 245/35-18 summer to 225/45-18 winter tyres to gain 11mm of clearance, which helped to not be the lowest car in scraping the underside on the snow after a snow storm and before the ploughs cleared the roads.

When doing my research for a square set of wheels I found that some have used 824M 18" on M3s. I'd assume that would also work for us. It's expensive though, like $500-$600 a wheel.

Definitely ran into this, I'm trying to avoid a winter staggered setup to be able to rotate tires and get a bit more life out of them.
