My BMW app i7 refresh/update question

My i4, two iX, i5 and our XM....when parked at home in the garage, if you walk by one of the cars and the iPhone is on you (digital key plus), the cars will "click" and come to life and an interior light and a few lights on the center console come on. When this happens, the My BMW app will update time of refresh.

This has not happened even once with my new i7. Does the i7 not do this? I even did a hard reset of my iPhone and re-booted iDrive....and the i7 does not wake up when sensing digital key plus or the physical key.

The only reason I like the walk by and refresh, is that it keeps the app updated and it keeps the app & car "awake" for accepting/sending a remote command.

I can open any i7 door, and the app updates...but I'd love it to behave like the i4/i5/iX, etc.

Thanks, and Happy Monday!

Digital key activated app & shows in iDrive and working great. Physical key linked and key car activated and working too.

Thanks for this pic. I just opened the "wallet" in my iPhone and swiped up to see i7 xDrive 60 and it showed:

Car unavailable
Climate unavailable
Trunk unavailable
Alarm unavailable

The it said to hold near door reader. I did this, and after 2 times, the Car, Climate, Trunk and Alarm have come to life in the wallet. WOW. Thank you.

You’re welcome and many times this forum has helped me way more than my dealer also

That was short lived. Walked back into the garage, car did not come to life when I approached and the wallet once again says Car, Climate, Trunk and Alarm not available :-o

Is there a way to keep the Car, Climate, Trunk and Alarm active in the wallet?

Thanks so much!

Doesn't the i7 have a setting to disable passive entry at home? Could that setting be turned on?

Have never seen this, do you know where this possible setting is? Thanks LV!

If my car is locked in the garage, and I approach the i7 will my iPhone (digital key plus), my car auto unlocks.

But if the car is just parked and unlocked, when I get near the car will not "wake up" and update the app, like my i4, iX and i5 did (and our XM does too).

Strange.

I wish I could help more but am limited not having an i7 myself. I just remember reading that somewhere on this forum that the 7 series is the only model where one can disable passive entry or auto lock/unlock whilst at home. Although if yours is unlocking when you approach that might not be it. How does the car stay parked and unlocked if passive entry is on? Wouldn't it lock itself when you walk away?

SOLVED

Thank you, THANK YOU Gemini7866 and LVBMW

It was that "geo-fencing" exclude home setting. It is under Door Locks/Comfort Access. I unchecked exclude home.

Once exclude home was deactivated, now the My BMW app wakes the car up upon approaching and the i7 is behaving like my i4, i5 and iX.

Glad to help! Now to figure out why the modest and humble iX lacks such a (potentially) useful option.

In the BMW i7, the ability to disable passive entry or auto lock/unlock while at home offers convenience and security. With passive entry enabled, the car remains parked and unlocked until manually locked. This feature ensures flexibility and peace of mind for users, especially in home environments.

It’s funny, but I’m reading this site as I have a new I7 on order. My most recent new car was a 2022 MB S580 and those & some other post 2020 models have been plagued with low & dead battery issues, due to the cars NOT being physically locked using the key fob when not in use, even when the car is in your own, private garage. In addition, MB is now saying that owners must keep the key fob 30’ away from the car when it is parked & locked, OR put the fob in a faraday pouch to keep the car battery from draining.

The absolutely horrendous thing, as I see it, is that this issue has been allowed to continue from one model year to the next without being fixed. My 2022 S580 was repurchased by MBUSA. So, so long MB, hello BMW!
