xDrive Conversion?
Is it possible?
Or at the very least, tuning the auto to do the 2nd gear launch like the G80/82? If they ever did release the xDrive as an option for the M2, could you swap a RWD auto to xDrive?

aerobod I wonder how much the diff would cost? I’m sure labor would be near 2-3k?
Versus selling a car and paying tax again to buy a new car (in California). An xDrive M2 would be ideal but I wouldn’t want to wait 2-3 years for one at this point.

It would become a car with no driveline warranty and quite difficult to sell due to its non standard modifications. Besides the diff, a lot of electronic and software mods, driveshafts, front suspension and other detail changes between the 2 models would be needed. More like $10 to $15K without labour unless you can find a crashed car for parts, further destroying resale value.

Really??? That’s shocking. I don’t know much about the mechanical differences between the two cars so that’s the first time I’ve heard that.
Could BMW still release one if they modified it?

///M TOWN The 2nd gear launch control would be easy to tune with the ecu unlocked I assume? With that and a boost by gear for 1st/2nd it shouldn’t ever be an issue.
I’ve been very close to ordering an individual G80 xDrive. It’s just a phone call away at this point but I’m hesitating… I need to clear up time from work and test drive both before I make a decision but I’d much rather spend 66k on my M2 build and comfortably get my sunroof versus dropping 106k on my xDrive M3 build with the carbon roof/exterior pack. I find myself wanting more space in my OG M2 but the G80 is massive to the point where it might be too much for me. Time will tell…

///M TOWN I appreciate the feedback! Thank you.
I was thinking that would be the case after I heard the G87 was bigger than the E92 M3. The F87 did become too small for me as a daily after year 5-6, especially being a manual and considering I had a manual 135i for almost five years as well prior. I’d go for an alpine white build, moonroof, auto, with the tech options, minus the shadowline pack and 5G/heated steering wheel

World's first G87 M2 xDrive?
Hey guys, I came across this thread as we're currently attempting to xDrive swap our 2023 G87 M2 here in the UK.
We're about halfway through the swap at the moment with all the running gear from a G82 M4 donor now in the car. Check out the video here: Read more about the swap in this thread: https://g87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2104190 I've seen a few comments saying it's not possible or wouldn't be worth doing but we want to build the fastest G87 M2 in the world through the quarter mile so xDrive will be necessary to launch a 1400 whp+ car from a dig. It may not make sense to do this moneywise, but we're enjoying the challenge and creating something unique. Any questions about the swap - I'll get back on here and reply regularly. Have a great day! |
