It seems like this a more advanced coding system than Bmercode. Is that correct?

Something in between bimmercode and ESYS if I’m understanding correctly?

No this isn't coding your car, like changing colors of the lights, or disabling the idrive warnings etc. This sends canbus signals depending on what you setup for associations.

For example I hit M2 on, and the cando box sniffs that signal, and sends an additional command to switch to sport screens. Coding can't do that.

Ok so certainly more capabilities. Does it then mean you can do everything bimmercode does PLUS more? I.e. would you buy both bimmercode and CanDo?

Sorry if silly questions: getting ready for my M2 delivery in around 8 weeks and trying to learn what I can before the.

Not silly at all and learning about all these systems and tools. You will likely want both. I use coding tools like Bimmercode or ProTools to code changes (lights, warnings, and so much more) and run the CanDo for associated extra functions.

CanDo is almost like hitting the record button on all of the manual button presses and screen taps required (some, every time you get in the car) to get it all configured the way you want. It's perfect, it's automatic, every time. Bimmercode is kind of similar, but goes beyond in some areas that are out of reach (not CanBus configurable)
Looking forward to getting mine when I get the car and really hoping it works right away with iDrive 8.5

Simple answer - you should get both.

I agree :-)

Here are a couple of examples of use, you can extrapolate and see if its capabilities might meet your needs (BMW DIY Guy don't mean to hijack your thread but it's becoming the de facto canDO+ thread :-)

Ah, OK so its more like making an Excel Macro using the "record" option I love writing Python and VBA code for projects so yeah this kind of options sounds fun to dive into as well.

Just posted this for anyone curious about the CAN sniffing tools that are part of canDO+, and how you can extend functionality on your own for any discoveries not already part of the database for your car:

The latest build 1.7 is up, plus Kies has a whole series of new videos up for this too, which is so cool!

Has anyone built out like a "best in class" style list of best functions for this yet? I am still very much in love with the M2 on/off invoking the M screens, and am spoiled now without it.

I would love to see what magic folks have come up with for this as I am sure there is a ton I haven't even thougth of for it.

Can you do if/then statements? Specifically, if I am in Track mode and I hit "vol +" can I make it increment traction control? or if I am in track mode and I hit the microphone button nothing happens? (several times on the track I hit the microphone button in error with the side of my hand and it is real distracting having the car talk to you when you are going 130 mph)

There isn't any logic like this at the moment, though that would be a cool feature. We'll look into it and propose some usages along those lines.

As for suppressing the car talking to you, that sounds unlikely. We can augment functionality, and disable some only if the car allows through options in the menu, and there doesn't seem to be a way to disable per the manual. I did find this though:

"Adjusting the volume
Turn the volume button during the voice guidance
until the desired volume is set.
The volume remains constant even if the volume
of other audio sources is changed."

Quick note after installing this in my LCI zf8, relative to the instruction in the original video, there are now only two retaining clips. Took a couple photos to save someone else breaking anything:

BMW DIY Guy When you invoke the cruise control, does it go back to the standard screen? And if so, can you just hit the M button again or would that just turn "M" off?

Honestly the cruise control undoing sport mode might be my biggest pet peeve with my G87

On my 2023, cruise control works fine in Sport mode. it is only Sport Plus and cruise control that is mutually exclusive.

Overall I believe it is DSC Off that is not compatible with cruise control.

Are you referring to M Mode (3 settings road, sport, and track) or the engine settings? I prefer my M Mode to be set to sport, but when I activate cruise control, the M Mode reverts back to "road", changing the instrument cluster layout.

Gotcha, same for me on the '24. I was referring to the M-Mode, not the engine, chassis, brake, etc settings you change via the setup button on the center console or M1/M2 buttons.

So I haven't tried the cruise control switch back like that.. my associations are set for M 2 on and off right now, to switch the M Mode screens.
