Car Play next track error
The ‘skip track’ buttons on the steering wheel often stop working when using CarPlay. You can still skip track on the iDrive screen but not with the buttons on the steering wheel or console. It fixes itself with a reset of the iDrive but stops working again once you exit the car. Any ideas?

Same here, happens a lot. Seems to happen when you turn the car off, get out of range of it with your phone before iDrive goes to sleep, then get back in...or if you leave the car running, get out with the phone presumably out of range of iDrive, and get back in...iDrive picks the phone back up, but without 100% of the functionality....I can change the track in CarPlay on screen directly, but the dash and steering wheel buttons don't work...I'm not sure this is exactly what is going on, but the story I am telling myself

Same thing happens here. The way I solved it was todisconnect the current Iphone connected, then reconnect it. The back and next track buttons should be working after reconnecting. It's a pain doing it... Not sure if it's an apple or BMW issue. This also happens with my M240 and X3, so it is not limited to the M2.

I rarely have issues with Carplay in our '22 X3MC, but have issues in my '23 M2 almost daily. The issues include one or more of the following:
- Carplay Music starts automatically when I unlock the car & open the door. Could be Spotify (which I always listen to) or music I have on my phone - who knows. - CarPlay opens when I unlock the door but no music playing - CarPlay/Spotify opens but just my account home page & I have to select my account, then my library, then what I want to listen to. - Spotify opens when I start the car, song shows it's playing but no sound & hitting volume button says that function is not available or similar. - CarPlay/Spotify is playing but screen is black. - CarPlay/Spotify is open but play button on the screen doesn't do anything & I have to hit play on my phone for it to start playing. - CarPlay/Spotify is playing but steering wheel buttons don't work to skip track. "Unknown artistist" message pops up like OP states. - CarPlay/ Spotify & Maps playing, screen goes black & switches to BMW home screen. Both Spotify & Maps keeps playing in the background, navigation displays in the HUD but CarPlay screen is black. All other screens work when scrolling through. - No CarPlay pops up, "cannot support this version of bluetooth" message pops up. - Displays "no device connected" but shows my device connected on both the device screen & my phone. - "you've been added as the primary user" message has popped up a couple times when I get in the car. Nobody else drives the car. I don't experience these issues in the X3 that has iDrive 7, so I think it has to be an iDrive 8 issue : |

That’s an extensive list. Fingers crossed one of these over-the-air updates actually fixes some of this and doesn’t just mean another Bimmercode session for no obvious improvements

I have had almost all of these same issues when using Spotify. Recently switched to using Apple Music and I almost never have a music issue with Carplay now. This has to be the Spotify app integration on the iphone and then across to Carplay. Regardless, switching from Spotify to Apple Music solved the issue. Not sure about other streaming services.

Sometimes it starts with the climate screen displayed, sometimes with the app screen opened. Basically the car displays whatever screen it wants when I hit the start button |

I had weird issues when I first integrated my phone with my G87. I resolved them by removing my phone from iDrive and then resetting network settings on my iPhone before adding it back to iDrive. Haven't had any issues since, but YMMV

I have the same issues as the OP as well and they have persisted through multiple OTA updates. It's amazing to me that they can't seem to fix this issue. Or, they aren't trying.
