New to the M2 Journey to find the right one

Hey forum, I have lost count how many hours I have spent looking for the right M2 with quality mods performed by a reputable shop. I’m looking for the M2 with performance bolt ons….or even better….a full build for street/road race track days & Autocross weekend toy. Not really a BMW guru, but looking over the cost per dollar, the new M2 seems pretty sweet. F87’s do too, but the improvements even with the weight make sense for me. And I prefer the G87 styling and larger square set up options.

So, it appears 600whp is achievable with basic bolt ons, a tune, and flexfuel? Anything more requires more cooling. Suspension mods for track work aren’t cheap either. Does the base M2 (‘23) for $59,000 make for a good starting platform to build or does the $65,000 ‘23-‘24 with unlocked ECU and more miles make better sense? I have found a little bit of everything.

If you know of a G87 with performance mods….let me know where to look. And thanks for chiming in. Favor DCT over manual….but open to either.

Just so you are aware, F87 uses DCT, G87 is ZF 8 speed automatic.

Full bolt on, tune on Flexfuel is going to put you well beyond 600 whp, probably closer to 700 whp. Will require unlock, tune, downpipes, upgraded clutch if manual. This will cost over $5k so that’s probably the difference in price on those 2 cars. I would buy the cheapest, newest, lowest mileage example that has the options and color I want.

Hey thanks. Great feedback. That sounds so much fun. I have access to good e85, but keep reading the stock bolt on limit is e50? Assume this is b/c of fuel system? I’d like to do a Pure 800 turbo and CSF cooling upgrades. Seems to be the sweet spot for what the car can handle.

Without a tune, you shouldn't exceed e10/e15.

Your wants are a little whacky...are you looking for a track car or street/drag racing? Budget? Dally driver and "race car"?

Personally, I would always say to build your own. That way you know what you are getting, who did it, how it was done and what has been done to the car.

Totally agree. However, I am always that guy with a $200,000 car with mods that sells for regular used price when it’s time to change projects. I will end up building something, but with the ease of a few bolt ons, I was hoping to find a nice set up already started to save me some time and money.

My weekend car is usually a track set up I can enjoy on the street. For me, this is road race track days, autocross, and street racing/driving events. I trailer to big tracks, but also enjoy my local car scene. I am leaning towards:
* e85 flex
* tune obviously
* turbo upgrade
* all the pipes & exhaust
* cooling upgrades
* suspension & handling components

You still haven't said, are you wanting a track car or street/drag race build? Builds would be different for the two.

Of you want a track car, go full stage 2 build on 93 octane with downpipes, intakes, colder plugs (you can fet to 650whp with the right custom tune) with added cooling (heat exchanger, oil cooler and trans cooler. Add some coilovers, rims and tires with maybe a rear seat delete.

If going all out and want to drag, you can do the same stage 2 build but have custom tune for an e40/e50 kill map (with the right custom tune, you can be at 750+whp). Want to go one step further and run e85, you will need to upgrade to port injection intake manifold, injectors, single big turbo and you will need a fuel system and fuel pumps to handle the e85 (and of course, custom tune). This can get you in the 800- 1,000whp depending on build and tune.

Thank you very much. I am not a drag racer. Will drag anytime, but not building a car to launch on the tree. Your stage 2 recommendations are helpful. I will probably chase the higher HP with port injection etc. In the 405 after midinight, anyone who wants to play has to have some big HP. I have had a tune for track and a tune for roll on's on previous builds.

Not knowing the BMW world, is there a reputable tune or company or software that favors track performance? I see a lot of Boot Mod, Ecutek, etc... I am sure they are all good, but I don't know who focuses mainly on BMW.
