Breaking issue
Hello,
I have had my car for a little over a year, and lately, I have been experiencing unexpected behavior when I press the brake pedal. This issue only occurs during the first mile or after the first few times I brake. After that, my brakes function as they did before. The brake pedal travel doesn't feel any different, but I experience limited braking force when I apply the brakes. It's very alarming, as it feels like the car is just sliding forward. After a few hard presses on the pedal, the car functions just fine. I suspect that the freezing temperatures may be part of the issue. Has anyone experienced this problem before? Thank you. |

In freezing temperature black ice/frost can be on the pavement. Aftermarket pads? Some aftermarket pads, "high performance" pads, don't offer as much braking action cold. They need a bit of heat. With factory pads the only time I have experienced something similar to what you describe is after I move the car out of the wash bay. I purposely apply the brakes but keep the car moving to remove the water on the discs. At first there is little braking force. But after a few car lengths the brakes begin to bite. When I leave the car wash I arrange to drive the car on surface streets and use the brakes enough to get them hot in order to dry all the brake hardware. A few times -- with various vehicles -- I have experienced what I believe is abnormal brake/brake pedal behavior. To address this I had the vehicle in for a brake fluid flush/bleed. In a few cases the brake fluid wasn't that old (<2 years) but nevertheless the brake system operated better after the fluid flush/bleed. |

I will take it to the dealership to have it checked out. Breaks are very important. |
