A Plug for NOBLR, USAA insurance
Two years ago USAA finally pissed me off enough after thirty years and I switched back to State Farm. I had State Farm when I became eligible for USAA thirty plus years ago. I didn’t do as much comparison as I did thirty years ago, but for some reason back then State Farm seemed to treat single people better than a lot of other insurers. And now a days USAA has to pay Gronk for all their stupid commercials, because it’s not like EVERY SINGLE military member doesn’t already know they’re eligible for USAA. I’m gonna be a little classist. USAA was the best when they only allowed officers. When they expanded they first only allowed NCOs. When they really started going to crap was when they opened membership to every 18 year old PV1 Joe and Jane. 18 y.o. Jane isn’t so bad. But 18 y.o. PV1 Joe Crab Shack is crazy and thinks he’s invincible!!
Anyway, back on topic. A little over a year ago USAA introduced NOBLR, which is a separate company that handles low mileage drivers. So, listen up, if you’re a low mileage USAA driver you should absolutely consider switching to NOBLR. I’m on my third renewal and my rates have been pretty phenomenal, especially considering today’s insurance market. I’ll let my bills speak for themselves. This most current bill is what prompted me to post this. The first is my initial premium in January and then my monthly premiums.

How low of mileage? I put about 5k ish miles a year on a vehicle if that.
USAA is getting worse I feel sometimes. Great on the bank side but insurance side its not so good. At least in my experience with them. Ill try Noblr and see if it'll help my rates |

That’s about what I do. USAA has been on the decline for probably ten years, but it’s gotten a lot worse in the last five years. The biggest decline pretty much coincided with when they installed a non-veteran CEO.

I wonder if they are getting ready to close NOBLR? I hope not. I’ve been seeing this ad for a few months. I ran a quote and it was nowhere near as good as NOBLR. Why would you encourage customers to leave your new company and move to your other company?

Boy, that’s the truth!!! I get dinged on acceleration and braking pretty often and yet I still usually have a score above the average. They are particularly not good at understanding the braking characteristics of driving in a big, traffic congested city. State Farm’s app kept up with my speeding relative to the posted speed limit. I just gave up on that element, because I going nine miles over the posted limit as I’ve been doing for 45 years and that’s not ever going to change.

I don't consent to a company monitoring me in exchange for "reduced rates".
I do put my cars in "storage" to get an insurance discount when I'm not driving them though. That works nicely. USAA member for 25y. It's definitely not the same as it was, but everything else I've checked out is worse.

I only have one car, so storage is not an option.

I shopped around on insurance and USAA was still overall best in my area. While not happy with my rates at 2200 for 4 cars one being in storage. |

Interesting thread. I have been with USAA since being commissioned as an officer in 1982. I tend to agree that it is not what it was back then.
I will never allow an insurance company to monitor my driving.

I hadn’t thought about the negative attitude towards having driving monitored when I started this. I’ve seen y’all make comments about it before, but it didn’t cross my mind when I started this. My main thought was the very good rates for low mileage drivers!! A big part of the variable portion of their premium is based on the number of miles driven each month, so, of course, they have to monitor your driving to get that information. The app also keeps up with whether you are the actual driver or whether you are on public transportation. It does a pretty good job of that, but not perfect. I sometimes lay my phone on the passenger seat, but I can’t recall it ever classifying me as the passenger. I am rarely a passenger. It does sometimes classify a drive as a ride on public transportation. lol, I just thought of this. Maybe on those rare drives where I don’t speed much and brake really smoothly on the whole trip it thinks I must be on the train.
![]() Anyway, I was very pleasantly surprised when I got my latest bill and it had a zero balance!! ![]() just a little note in defense of my driving. I actually brake very smoothly almost all the time, but in a big, congested city sometimes you have to brake very suddenly. I’m not sure how much of this is due to our newest generation of drivers (I don’t think it’s much), but I have decided Chicago drivers are literally the WORST drivers in the entire country!!! They certainly are the worst of anywhere I’ve ever lived. I say this frequently. If they pulled some of the things they do here in Texas they would get run over!!! And possibly shot!! In the city almost all of the streets are either narrow or VERY narrow and 25 - 30 mph is pretty much the norm. So even on wide streets where 40 is easily doable (and maybe even the speed limit) they feel like they are just flying if they go over 30 mph!

I'm not eligible for USAA, but as an alternate I went through a broker to go with Auto Owners Insurance for three of my vehicles and Hagerty for one other. I've been with State Farm for 20 years and finally had enough. I now have the same coverage plus agreed-to-values for two of the vehicles that I didn't have in place before with $500k coverage, and I'm saving about $1800/year now.

![]() That said, there are no mileage restrictions on either, so I could use them every day if I wanted. The only stipulation for one of them is that I must have an "antique" license plate. That was an easy $25 to spend... |
