Custom order.

So I just placed a custom order for m2 last week. I’m just wondering how long did you guys wait for a vin number or production number and how long did it take arrive. My service adviser said 1-3 months

it'll be more determined by the color you choose more than the options. Did you choose a standard color? expect the car in 3-4 months regardless of options.

Did you choose an individual color? 6-8 months.

Thats it

yeah expect your car between 3-4 months. The only time people see a car in 1 month is if they either take over an allocation on a car thats already left production or about to complete it. New orders you'll a production date scheduled essentially as soon as you place the order and it's usually about 2-4 weeks out from when you placed the order. Then about 4-6 weeks for delivery depending on where you are.

Did your dealer have an allocation? If so the Production number (VPN I think) is available immediately. I forget when the VIN shows up - maybe when a production date is set, but I don't recall for sure.

I ordered a stripper M2 9/5/24 (dealer had an allocation so I got my VPN immediately and it went straight to status 112) and picked it up 11/12/24.

Sometimes stuff like carbon buckets can slow things up or VPC installs.

Enjoy the anticipation - you will love the car.

Nah I didn’t think my dealer had one. My client advisor told he will send me a text of my vin when it’s available. Yeah I can’t wait, hopefully it comes right after all the snow falls.

Ah I didnt realize you didnt have an allocation. Expect to wait a bit longer than. The times I quoted were if you had an allocation ready to go. it's possible that the times he quoted you were to wait for an allocation. I would call around if you can, most dealerships should have allocations. These arent Porsches.

VIN shows up right at the start of production when they pull a.chassis and match it to a production number.

Ask for a copy of your build sheet from their system. It'll have a production number on it if an allocation is associated with the order, and it'll have a different status code on it.

Status 102 is your order is inputted into the system with no production number aligned. This is the dealer signaling interest to BMW NA but no allocation assigned or potentially not available.

Status 111 is order accepted by BMW NA. This means the dealer assigned an allocation to your order and BMW NA accepted it and is working on assigning a production date.

What is status 105 mean? I tried searching but didn’t find an exact answer. I’ve seen some say it’s not a good sign and other say don’t worry about it.

I don't know that status code. My car went 102, 111, 112 and then on down as it was built.

Don't want to mess up the OPs thread but there are several (numerous?) threads already in existence with all of this information. Just look for the ordering threads. If you are in the USA, all the different cars being built in Mexico will have the same process/procedure. There is also a trick you can do with your computer to show all the minute details of your build and the production process.

Having said all of this, when I ordered my M240i back in July 2023, the longest part of the entire process was waiting for the car to get on a ship and then waiting for the ship to get to the states. It is the reason I decided to find my M2 on the lot - which saved me at least 3 months.
