It’s not just on this one, its on all press/marketing photos and videos. It’s where the hood line meets the new front bumper against the headlight- the curve of the hood doesnt blend into the more straight line of the new bumper.

The designer addressed this in his walk around video with BMW Blog, saying specifically about the bumper that he wanted all of the M designed elements to appear building out like muscles from the standard body parts.

Clearly you know nothing about racing heritage ranging back to the 60’s, where the pale blue’s dominated and were always associated with full fledged race cars. Even current F1 cars (Gulf McLaren livery in Monaco).

Also worth noting Gulf owns the blue, so it's not a Porsche owned color. Also they have evolved their blues over the years so there are dozens of versions of "Gulf Blue"

The surface slope of the bumper cover is different than the adjacent hood surface slope at their junction. I don't think I've ever seen something like this before or at least not from BMW (I'll search for the designer's video as I've not seen it yet). Aerodynamically, you can basically "get away with" such a transition since it's located in the middle of a favorable surface pressure gradient without too much additional drag since in this region the boundary layer will remain nailed down hard to the surface along with it being still very thin (i.e. not a long distance from the stagnation point on the front of the car). Aesthetically, it's part of what I felt looked "unfinished" upon seeing the car in person the past two days.

Oil companies and motorsport colors.

Trivia: Jochen Neerpasch about the ///M colors. They came up with the idea to combine the red color of the Texaco logo + the blue & white colors of the Bavarian flag (Bayern) (note: for sure Neerpasch meant "the Bavarian colors" instead of "the Bahrein colors") + violet as the mix of both Texaco red and Bavaria blue.

Honestly, without the rest of the Gulf livery on the car, the blue means nothing on a car except that it's an M2 in baby blue.

It's ok to say the color resembles the blue used in Gulf livery. But it's not the same blue or their reasoning for using the blue.

It's is only our reasoning to try and accept why they would use such a color on the M2.

Without decals the color looks more fitting with Mary Kay logos on it except Mary Kay paints their cars in pink but it gives off that vibe too me.

Then you should also black out the "Mary Kay" blue M stripe in the badge since it's so offensive to your masculinity smh

The M2 uses the hood, doors and trunk lid from the M240i. Safe to say the frame and straight off the M240i so the mounting points for the hood have to be in the same place as well as the headlight assembly to align correctly.

The designer can say that it was intentional to show "muscle" but my guess is he had no choice and blended everything best he could and it was the best compromise. He could have matched the slope but at the cost of how the grill would look and balance with the headlights??

I didn't say it was offensive to my masculinity and have no problem with the color. I'm just saying it doesn't work with this car. Doesn't give me the M2, racecar, sportscar whatever you wanna call it vibe. Looks like it was wrapped in that color. (Edit: was trying to do a pic search on cars in baby blue and honestly... it doesn't work on MOST cars lol).

I've seen pics of Lamborghini's with this color. Not my preference but it's not as bad because it's got the lines to not lose it's agressiveness and stance. I've seen a pic of STO looks fine but it has orange accent on lower spoilers to break it up. Maybe the M2 needs some trim in contrasting color to break it up a bit.

Nice. Unsurprisingly to me it sounds very G82 M4 like.

I loved the (similar) buckets in my track prepped, weekend-only 981 and 718 GT4s.

However, they absolutely do not belong in a car like the M2 or M3.

Love me some bright blues!

Reminds me of the older GT40 blues or something with a Martini Racing logo on it.

I think we are out of luck for now as well as reliant on someone else to raise the bar. When you have a cold engine and a pre-production vehicle not past break-in I suspect it is doubtful we will see anything beyond what we have got.

There are couple of amateur videos from Saturday's exhibition in good quality that had the exhaust at WOT floating around scattered online.

It sounded really clean with of course BMW signature popcorn-maker burbles when the RPM drops but I would dare say they are little more subtle than its predecessor, with a buildup akin something sounding more NA, not at all raspy, until it drops back down from climax, then it's popcorn city - but not as offensive.

Sorry I can seem to locate any of the videos I happen on this weekend but if I do, I'll link 'em.. For now, picture the sound of an old school V12 8 Series, with a touch of bubbles at the top end.

If anyone else have any of these exhaust sound samples, please link for the cause..
