I typed a long response that somehow didn't post
I grew up in Boston and after a dozen moves around the country we've landed 120 miles away. On a regular basis we head up for dinner and stay at https://libertyhotel.com/ it's an old jail, on the water, converted to a boutique hotel but if not luxury enough... The Mandarin Oriental is AWESOME and right in the middle of the Back Bay https://www.mandarinoriental.com/bos...y/luxury-hotel As a bonus, September/early October is my weather in Mass. Warm days, cool night |

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

are you open to California?
We spent Christmas a few years ago at The Del. https://hoteldel.com/ We stayed in Beach Village and it was awesome, friends stayed in the main Victorian, and although nice it wasn't as nice I think SD has the best weather on the planet, the beach was awesome... as a bonus, NAB Coronado is right there so you could see the BUDs (SEAL team) training most mornings just off your beach. |

I last stayed there in 2018. Waaaayyyy better than the Clown Motel. Less creepy, anyways.

Yes. Beautiful property and all, but just not my cup of tea. Too much wealth and showing it for my taste. I prefer a place like Beaver Creek, also draws a well off crowd but more low key about it.
Ritz Carlton’s rub me the same way. The Amelia Island property is very nice but might as well be a top hotel in Vegas for all I care. Laguna Ritz is the same. |

I'm a huge ran of trains and railroad architecture. My DW booked us for a weekend at the Lackawanna Station Hotel in Scranton, PA. They did a tasteful conversion of the old station into a hotel, and it is located right next to the Steamtown National Historic Site to spend a day walking around looking at the facility and collection of old trains. Probably not what you're looking for, but it was my favorite hotel so far outside of Niagara Falls.....

If you really want to drop some cash. I looked at this place for a Grand Canyon trip back in 2017. I didn't stay there.

Years ago, I went to a restaurant in PA somewhere that was in an old train car. I don't think it was in Steamtown. It was close to our property in Wayne County I think. I need to see if I can find it.
