I wouldn't write off an xDrive version just yet. All we know is there are no "currently known" plans for xDrive which is a far cry from it's never going to happen. The F87 wasn't suppose to get an S55 engine... and then they gave us the M2C. There wasn't any confirmation of an F87 M2 CS for the longest time and then it suddenly leaked to the surprise of many. This is the last iteration of an ICE M2 and I wouldn't be surprised if BMW decides to throw everything at it throughout its lifecycle.

That's not entirely accurate. They phased out the OG M2 due to WLTP, otherwise they would have offered both the OG and M2C at the same time.

I don't believe that for a second. If that was the case, nothing was stopping them from using the B58 in base M2 and trying to sell it at $4500 less. He is full of it. There would be no S55 M2 Comp without new WLTP testing procedures. This decision was forced on them.

I don't believe he's full of anything. Even before he was asked that question he said the following.

And true to his word they eventually came out with an M2 CS model to succeed the M2C. The CSL however never materialized, but it didn't for the F80 M3 or F82 M4 either. BMW decided to give the G87 the S58 from the start as a base model. This has already been verified by insiders. Why did they do that? Who knows, maybe because a lot of people were pissed the OG didn't get an M engine or because they couldn't squeeze out enough power from the B58 to differentiate it from the M240i. I don't know, but I do know the S58 has more variants than the S55 with big differences in power, so maybe that's why. All speculation, but I don't think it's fair to base views on conjecture. I read as much as I can, but never conclude with a 100% certainty until there is full disclosure. Until then I determine what is likely and what is less likely with the knowledge I have today and remain open to changing my view when better and more accurate information is made available.

How come FWD CVT isn't an option in this poll?
Since we're making up options, I choose a FWD M2 Competition X-Klaw, with studded BFG Mud Terrains in the front and R888s in the back. The car will have a half cage, but only on the right side of the interior and a panoramic roof. Mine will have piano black interior trim that's actually a piano that I can play in traffic.

Those cars you quoted do not carry the torch of the most fun to drive car for BMW. The ethos of the E30 M3 was passed onto the E36 M3, E46 M3, 1M, F87 M2 and now the G87 M2. The E92 M3, F82 M4 were never regarded as the most fun to drive car in their series due to the sheer size and weight

Irrelevant to the M2 obviously. But call me a a-hole, AWD is only acceptable on the M3 if you live in a snowy/rainy climate. Otherwise AWD is heresy.

When was the F87 light? It was 25 pounds lighter than the F82 in manual spec. It's a brick.

You do realize the xdrive version is proven to be faster. Both in a straight line and around a circuit. I think willfully wanting cars to slower is heresy.

BMW has done a fantastic job engineering it's xdrive while taking driving dynamics into consideration. They are primarily RWD and allow you to hang out the rear as much as you want. Hell, M xdrive allows you to disengage the front completely if you so choose. The only penalty to having the system is a measly 100 lbs give or take which wouldn't be noticeable one way or another in the 3600+ lb arena.

No reason not to offer it other than pandering to the outdated and archaic thinking of fanbois who scream that the only option should be rWd MaNuAl...

I would trade my G82 for a G87, but only if xdrive were an option.

It's not Fanboyish to like RWD because it is fun...adding 55Kg onto the chassis is damn stupid in my eyes if I am never ever going to use the xDrive
