I was thinking the same, but then it dawned on me that may not make much sense. If they just bump it 20hp but the torque stays at 406 lb-ft it won't feel that much faster as that power will all be on the top end. The M3/4c for instance are boosted to 479 lb-ft of torque and 503hp. That added 73 lb-ft of torque makes a massive difference.

So they could just bump it 20hp, offer MT and call it a day. Or they can also do something like give it 481hp with 479 lb-ft of torque. In that case it definitely won't get a MT. Stay tuned.
80 lb-ft is a lot but having driven both versions of the M3, it makes little difference behind the wheel unless you drive them literally back to back. Even then, it's hard to tell if the edge in performance comes from the engine or transmission.

Pretty sure they will just repeat what they did with G80/2.

They don't want to sell you a 500+HP manual car and having ppl come back with broken parts because they drive like dickheads.

They offer a manual to please the ppl who want one but that's just it. If the bean counters would take every decision they'd just sell auto's. More profitable, safer, simpler.

What dose this mean for the UK market ? As I swear we are only getting the M2 comp In the first place.

I personally would only let my G42 go for a M2 comp in X drive variant and even then if it looks anything like the leak photos I'll be sure to just keep my G42 and go down the pure turbo route.

Also that kind of wait for a Comp is ridiculous and if it's anything like now you can only imagine people won't realistically see there comps until 2025.

Last time u got a S55 instead of a N55.
This time i only see a slight bump in power, carbon roof standard and a bit more options like colours. All things that u can easily modify yourself instead of waiting 2 years

Only thing they really can do is upgrading it with a M xDrive

Makes you wonder if that is the case why they would wait 2 years to release the M2C.Why not just release both at the same time.I’m really surprised that they seem to be using the same formula for the G87 that they did for the F87.First the limited colors and now this info.

Not that long, it's actually 1yr and 4mo after the base M2 is launched.

But wasn’t the G80 M3 competition released at the same time as the regular M3?

Absolutely! I hear individuals all the time say, “they are both automatics.” False. Not even remotely the same internally.

Yes, it but it was the xdrive G8x that was released about a year later, +/- a few months. Hmmm? I smell xDrive.

I don't believe it was at the same time, I'm sure someone else can comment. But I don't recall it being nearly 1.5yrs out either; it was something like 1 year after?

G80/G82 manual transmission intel after the reveal. The M engineer mentions the competition package while discussing the manual non-comp.

That video doesn't say much on the technical front, other than the manual gearbox is a direct carryover from the previous generations - and the rev-matching is now user-selectable, plus they added a digital gear indicator readout for the manual transmission..

As hard as it is to believe, my next door neighbors son is an engineer up at BMW HQ R&D. If I'm very lucky, often on a Friday early evening, a camo-wrapped test vehicle is in the driveway momentarily before cars in the garage are rotated.

Just happens the new G87 M2 was there a week or 2 ago, I was walking my dog, chatted a bit. but was not allowed to take any pictures. Yeah, I know, no pictures, no story but I can tell you it is wide, VERY wide and very low. It reminded me a bit of my E92 335 coupe in size, just on steroids & thicker.

The wheels/tires are exactly the same size as my G82 Comp. The wheels were almost directly underneath the center of the engine hood and power dome on it looked a lot like the F80. Most of the interior was covered with black cloth, but the seats looked a bit like the KITH seats with the 3 ///M colors on the shoulder edges.

I could also make out some type of pixelated looking design on the door panels in ///M colors. I did not see any bulges or raised areas under the camo wrapped front fender where the M2 vent would go.

Sorry, can't get more technical than that and no pictures but impressive looking (other than the boxy front apron). It was a chance encounter. I can share these since they're already out though for credibility.

The point being is that the non-comp and comp where revealed at the same time. There was little to no secrecy that a competition model was going to be offered, unlike the current situation with the G87.

Furthermore, I was attempting to answer this.

On this does everyone remember the M5 release?

That got a bit salty and I don't blame owners. M5 was released with little news or date on the M5C the boom!!! Alarmist immediately it was out and early adopters of a $100k car were a bit screwed by BMW.

At least this timeline is open and disclosed as was the immediate G8Xs.

Better this way.

No beef, just saying; the video didn't help much with your argument.

I don't believe BMW is in a rush to release a "Comp" version of the M2, since the base model already has a manual option, so there is no immediate urgency, as there was with the G80/82 base vs Comp, when they can save and offer the Comp nomenclature later down the line as an upgraded version to the current model, as the base model becomes more complacent in the market.

That being said, the Comp version will most definitely be auto only, as there are technical reasons the manual gearbox can't handle more torque the Comp version allots. The S58 even has a different engine code distinguishing the auto and manual transmission it's being attached to.

I was waiting on mentioning this here until we had more info, but here's a bit of a 'potential' curve ball.

Hopefully ynguldyn can comment on this here.

Really hope they don't do what they did with the F87 by getting rid of the base model and only offering a Competition going forward. I know in the case of the F87 it was due to WLTP emissions.
