Addressing the title of this thread: Michelin did not release a spiritual successor to the PS4, they released an actual successor, aptly named the Pilot Sport 5 (PS5). This was announced back in 2022.

As of right now, there is still no successor to the Pilot Sport 4S (PS4S). The PS4S is still their top-of-the-line widely available UHP summer tire (not counting cup or R compound tires).

This just-released tire, the Pilot Sport S 5 (PSS5), is a new tire in the lineup, NOT a replacement for anything, designated for select OE applications. We can likely expect an announcement regarding the successor to the PS4S sometime this year, which will likely be constructed on many of the same advancements found in the PSS5
TL;DR, Michelin's naming convention sucks.

Just as the man in the video stated (although I am not holding my breath that the PS4S replacement will be released this year).

Right, but a lot of people don't/can't watch the whole video. He also doesn't address the PS4/PS5 in this video. He does in an earlier video when the PS5 was first released.

Agreed, I don't think we'll get the PS5S this year, but I'm expecting an announcement this year, with roll-out next year

I've had good experiences with Continental, Michelin, and Firestone (Firehawk Indy 500). Pirelli is on my shit list after several sidewall failures on their RFTs.

I've only ever had Pirelli's on an E46 and they sucked. Would break traction with any decent amount of torque and the sidewalls folded easily on hard cornering. I don't know if they've gotten better but get where you're coming from.

I've ran the ExtremeContact DWS tires on my off season setup for my last two cars and they have been great, never tried their summer tires though.

I had the ContiSportContact5 or some other word jarble on my RS5. They were solid as far as I could tell. AWD obviously compensates in some regards, so I can't speak for their more recent tires being on RWD cars. I had extremecontacts on my (tuned) 2016 428i RWD and they were ok.

I currently have Pirelli P Zero RFTs on my demo. I have no issue with them other than I not not care for RFTs. RFTs have come a long way from when they first arrived on Z8s. FYI, the 2000 Z8 was the first BMW to receive RFTs.

The Conti DWS 06 is a great all season replacement tire if anyone wants to ditch their RFTs.

Word of mouth, The 4S replacement was originally scheduled to launch in November 2022 and has been delayed indefinitely.

I will reluctantly suffer through it. More often than not my wheels get damaged during the mount and balance process. I greatly prefer to avoid that during the G87 honeymoon phase.

Since I have new wheels coming from Richland Forged, I am considering new tires anyway, vice dismounting the tires from the OEM wheels and remounting them to the new wheels. Don't want to risk a double whammy haha.

I am hoping to find a local shop known for good work.

Can you guys share any insight into this? A reputable BMW shop here will be remounting my stock tires to new rims. Do shops normally cause damage?
