If you have BimmerLink, just put the car in diagnostic mode, connect to BimmerLink using OBD dongle, and force the valves open. You’ll hear them mechanically switch since the car will be off. Then pull the fuse, disconnect BimmerLink, done. No need to start the car or put in Sport mode.

Its really simple:

1. Drive the car to normal operating temperature.
2. Switch to sport plus
3. Park, leaving the car running and in sport plus
4. Pull the fuse

Are there any before and after videos of this at cold start?

Because on my M135i was clear the engine sound on the speakers on the 240i I don’t hear anything that could point to hear on the speakers the engine sound.

Would like to hear more feedbacks from my2023 owners
Was wondering the same thing. My M240 is id8 as well and I struggle to detect engine/exhaust noises coming through the speakers. When I roll down the windows, what I hear outside seems to match.

Once you pull the fuse the activesound engine stuff disables too. The setting is still there but it doesn't do anything with the fused pulled(which I prefer off)

If I want to reinstall the fuse and return the car to normal, is there’s a specific procedure? Plug fuse in while turned off? While running up to temp in sport mode?

Car off then replace the fuse and finally clear the fault logs using bimmerlink. The car doesn’t need to be warm or in a particular mode.
Note: even with the codes cleared, they will more than likely still be visible to BMW.

What is the valve really for?

Plenty of talk/posts about muffler valves. I just did the fuse pull on my 2022 230 M Sport. I will post any negative observations if they come up.

However, what is the valve even for? Just noise control?

I'm in the same boat as you 2023 not really sure what all this fake sound through speakers is I dont hear it. I do try to always drive with the windows down especially now that I have the aa dp and mpe on the car. My mk6 golf r had a little box you disconnected for the interior sound that was noticable.

This is def worth doing. Opening the valve lets thru a lot more of the lower frequencies / bass sound. Sounds like a BMW now, not a Toyota. I don't like having to be in Sport mode just to have a nice sounding exhaust.

You don’t need to pull the fuse. When the car is running and they are open, unplug the wire going into the valve.

Then I would imagine you would have an open loose plug connection exposed to the elements underneath the car ?

I would only be comfortable doing that if I wrapped and zip-tied the plug to keep it protected.

Did you end up putting the fuse back in ? Did you ever have any issues ?

No, it’s been out since I posted this, no issues just more exhaust noise, even in eco, my favorite drive mode.
