I bought a 2022 Golf R manual transmission and sold after 6 months. I really wanted to love it but the intermittant electronic glitches and irritating controls remained annoying. I also could not get past the VW hatchback design either. It felt and looked cheap to me. If I turned around to look at it while walking away it was only to see if it looked any better than I thought. No, it didn't. Not a VW fanboy here. The tweens constantly wanting to race me in their GTI's and WRX's got to be embarrassing. I went back to BMW which is another notch or two up in nearly everyway to me. The VW dealership experience also sucks.

Congrats! Although I’m a different class than the g87, it’s an awesome car and great fun!
Enjoy it! Always wanted to do a golf R project. One day!

I'm glad I'm not the only person that feels this way. Some of my friends have only positive things to say, but I always got this "why are you wasting my time? Buy it or GTFO" vibe from VW dealers.

Every BMW SA has always acted like I'm the only customer on the lot, and patiently answered my every question. Let me test drive multiple cars. Walked me through paint samples. etc. It's definitely one of the reasons I've stayed with BMW.

Purely anecdotal, but my list is:

* Above average dealers: BMW, Merc, Toyota

* Below average: Subaru, VW, Mazda (that one hurts because I love their cars)

Obviously, YMMV.

I do agree with him that I wish it had ventilated seats. It’s not just the bottom area, but back too. There have been a couple of sunny days where I started sweating, and I’m not a big person by any means (165 lb). Not having that option alone is forcing me to get tints.

Toyota to me is the worst of the worst... at least in FL... it feels like you just went to a pawn shop or bazar where the salesman hustle you and try to push the cars on you in a minute... i've never felt like that at any BMW dealer i've visited... also while BMW dealers aren't always the most informed you can always count on a few enthusiasts working there... not at Toyota... and let's not even begin to discuss the service experience. Let's say if I had a Supra, I'd be very scared.

Anyways I didn't want to ghost that one guy that wondered where I went but that's where I went. my ultimate deciding factors were wait time and price. the R cost 53k +TTL and was available same day while the BMW was about 14k more. Anyways , fun knowing ya!

I live in IL and I had the same car for 15 months. I put almost 7000 miles and it was a great experience. It’s an amazong car, quick and fun. I sold it at a local dealer while I’m waiting for my M3 CS. I had an allocation for an M2 and fhey I cancelled it. Great choice.

You don't need to weigh 280lbs to find this feature appropriate. Moreover, if someone doesn't get any hotter driving their car than when they got into it, they're assuredly not driving it with any fervor.

Really Guy? You live in Australia and you can't figure out why anyone would want this?

I guess athletes should start exclusively wearing leather shoes and clothes because the material breathes so well.

Man in 2016 I paid $41.5 CAD for a fully loaded MK7 w/DSG. I know they now have the trick differential but it's kind of shocking how much these cars go for today. It was a really good all season commuter car but the typical VAG issues get a little annoying like having a coolant leak and having to wait over a month because VAG has no thermostat housings in stock due to the fact they fail so frequently on the EA888 engine.

Did you pay ADM? MSRP is $45,835 and I don't see any options other than add-on accessories such as bike rack, trunk liner, etc.

Nice ride! I loved my Mk7 GTI DSG and sometimes regret buying my Macan S over a new Mk7 Golf R 6MT w/6 year warranty. With the Mk8 I just can't get over all the cheap looking piano black plastic inside, the all-screen controls, and turbo 4 motors are not satisfying to me, even if fast. I'm sure it feels excellent to drive though.

I saw G87 in person yesterday in dealer in Katowice (Poland). Absolutely understand everyone who is canceling reservation and goes towards golf R or similar substitutes.

G87 is so ugly and not attractive that I assume face lift will be introduced fast. Even IND performance parts are not able to cover that.
I am sooooo disappointed. I was believing in opinions, that M2 look better in reality, but it was so naive....Ehh... 6 months wasted time of reading/ watching YT reviews.

Congrats and enjoy the R. Never driven the 8 but the reviews are positive, save for the infotainment.

I had a MK6 R on order for 11 months, (was originally told 2), and the week it landed, I drove a 1M. Went back to VW, retrieved deposit, and drove the 1M every day for 5 years.

Bought a Mk7.5 Golf R for the daily grind, and the 1M gets to do the 'good' drives.

They're a really nice package the Golf R. Don't care what anyone says.

Good stuff.!!

Subjective, and a facelift will happens fast like it did with the G8.. oh wait..

Multiple aftermarket companies are receiving nothing but praise for 90% of their mods they produce, and I already am seeing crowds do the “Ew to Awe” phase but you can’t please everyone.
