They could then have the CS/CSL be the "limited" editions and further elevated performance (this would reduce the number of different models).

In other words, the M Competition would be the new base, with high production, with a modest performance increase (but not necessarily as much as the current Competition), then the CS/CSL be the highly allocated with an extreme performance increase. That theory I could believe.
I don’t know, seems like a lot of rumor and speculation without any official BMW press release in this post…

Why are people assuming that they won’t offer a manual anymore just because the base got rebadged to a Comp?

Go and build a competition M3/M4 right now with a stick. you can't.

I've seen a lot of places say that with the engineering/durability/emissions requirements increasing they would need to redesign the manual to accommodate, and since manuals are such a small part of the market, why invest the resources?

BMW said this is the last manual ICE M2, so they wouldn't be lying if they released an M2 comp and it wasn't offered with a manual.

Why would BMW cut their M2 sales by half..? Their hp excuse also won't work, 475bhp is exactly what a base M4 with stick has.

Yeah exactly this has nothing to do with HP limitations (manuals are running tunes without issue as well) and everything to do with people thinking that just because a M3/M4 Comp isn’t offered in manual today that a M2 Comp won’t be once the base is dropped.

I think it's only 50% or lower take rate in the US.

We should have a manual option until the end of the decade according to some of their statements, but I wouldn't be surprised if they walked that back with some of the other manual options dropping (camaro, challenger, golf r, etc.)

Well we know the manuals are going away sooooooooooooo

EDIT: not saying it's JUST because of engineering / torque. I was watching the SavageGeese video on the Nismo Z yesterday and that's why they dropped it from that platform, probably just confusing it.

I mean, how many car does BMW offer with the 6mt at this point? It’s likely a logistics headache for no real benefit to BMW

There is a reason the MY2025 G87 is only getting the base G80/G82 tune. Manual gearbox still viable at those power levels. Manual isn't going anywhere post MY2024.

Well there we go, some additional info:

Looks like no MT in 2025…at least on the CS.

With all base models gone, I'm sure they will just replace the base model M4 with an M2, considering the power output, the car must be staying manual and possibly will cary a comp badge with a healthy price increase.

The way I read that article is that the 6MT won’t likely be going away soon (next 2 or 3 MY) but expect a nice price increase along side the new mapping to give the S58 more HP.

It seems so odd to me to hand out an extra 20hp in a car that is functionally the same as MY23 and MY24

You’re correct. Production start August of 25 would be a MY 26.
