Yes. It was parked. I've taken pretty good care of the Honda. So, it was upsetting to see.

You just reminded me. Couple of summers back I was driving along a forest preserve and heard a loud bang just over my shoulder. it was so loud I thought someone threw a rock at my car. I quickly pulled over to investigate and found it was an acorn. My windows were open, it hit the drivers side B pillar inside the car. I could see the impact area, bits of the acorn were in the back seat and floor. Lucky it cleaned up without any damage. Shit scared the livin'F outta me.

As long as you didn't let the egg fully dry in rather hot direct sunlight conditions on a warm summer day, then there should be minimal clear coat damage / etching. Hope you quickly rinsed this off later that night or the following morning after this senseless / immature act ocured.

The damage to the clear coat is mechanical from the sharp edges of the broken shell.

I had this happen 15 years ago at night, and I drove home and immediately sprayed it off. I still had the same damage to the paint. It was more than an etch, it was more like a pattern of rock chips in the shape of an egg.

Yep, its the impact and damage from the egg shells.

It’s actually the entire egg. The shell is almost 100% calcium carbonate which is corrosive and the yolk is highly acidic which begins clear cost deterioration on contact.

The damage progresses with time and will eventually affect the paint as well.

To add to the above comments, eggs are also very strong due to their shape. When they are thrown and break upon a painted panel, they will cause a good amount of damage even aside from jagged shrapnel of the shell.

The yolk is just slightly acidic (pH ~6) and on impact will get mixed with the egg white which is slightly alkaline (pH ~8), so the net effect will be pretty neutral. Most of the damage from an egg impact is purely mechanical. Even if you wipe it right away, the damage will be there forever.

In a fresh egg the yolk and white will not mix without firm agitation. Crack a egg into a bowl and watch the result.

As the egg ages, the white becomes thinner and the yolk weaker, causing them to mix more easily.

In general, the shell is the most damaging to the finish. If you do nothing or wait to afdress the yolk, yes, it will cause damage to the finish/paint. If you take immediate attention to clean the yolk, its affects will be minimal compared to the shell.

Bottom line, the egg is an enemy to the exterior of the car.

Totally agree; my point was never intended to diminish “effects” caused by the shell.

This reminds me of an NYC story where a guy broke multiple car windows to get more business at his shop.

Smash an egg into something hard and see how the yolk and the white mix nicely. I doubt whoever vandalized the car "cracked" an egg on it. More likely they threw it from across the street.

Ok Biff you win on hypotheticals.
Any idea on velocity, distance, humidity, contact angle, temperature, and street name?
