Love my HUD, but for $1100 I’d pass.

I love it and couldn’t imagine my car without it. As a 6MT it’s so nice to see my RPM gauges right in front of me without having to look down.
Also- speed limit on street and directions right in your face if needed is sweet. Get it imo. You can always turn it off if you hate it, but I’ve never heard of anyone hating theirs. |

Anyone with HUD tint their windshield? I like to run 50% ceramic on my windhsields to reduce heat and UV damage. Wondering if tint would affect the image at all.

Love HUD. Only look at dash for tire temp and oil temp and range. Don’t like driving wife’s LR without it. |

I optioned mine with it. When I test drove the car, it was the first time I’ve driven a car with a HUD. I thought it would be a nice-to-have.
After using it, I mostly have it off now, especially if I’m in “Road” mode. I would like it more if it didn’t have that blue background. I like the more simplified HUD that was in the i4 I had as a loaner. I haven’t checked to see if I’m able to change it using BimmerCode. I plan on checking after my break-in service is done this Friday. Has anyone else tried and been successful doing so? The two times I do have it on is either when I’m in “Sport” mode or when I have navigation active. I think having the RPM gauge there is useful in “Sport,” especially so with a manual. With the navigation, it’s useful having the next turn and distance to it right on the windshield. I have one of my shortcuts set up to turn it on/off, so it’s super quick changing back and forth. Would I option it again? Sure, why not. Edit: I have two pairs of sunglasses that I use. One polarized and one not. The polarized definitely causes the HUD to darken, but it’s still visible/useful. |

I'd actually think it would help contrast a tad. In the AZ desert extra uv/ir/heat protection is a must but that said I optioned mine without HUD. When I did check it out on a floor car (oem windshield) though I did find polarized glasses made it almost invisible. Not completely, but dim enough to wonder if it would be useful.

Honestly I’m slightly disappointed with the HUD. I have a GMC Sierra with a HUD and it’s so much higher resolution than the one on my M2. It looks nice don’t get me wrong but I wasn’t expecting the one in my Sierra to look better lol

I have a HUD in my X3. During the day I can’t see it because I wear polarized sunglasses. At night I find it distracting so I turn it off. It’s also entirely repetitive with the other screens in the car.
So I did not option on my M2. Though I debated it because shift lights would come in handy. But still not worth it. |

Quite the broad range of posts! Pretty even split between pass and must have.
I hopefully will have enough time to drive a car with the HUD. I’m surprised it hasn’t been equipped (or on) in any of my G8x test drives so far.

I think it was worth it. I like having the information on the windshield such as speed and tach so I don’t have to take my eyes off the road….Especially when I’m using GPS is also nice to have the map and directions show on it.

However, if you view it on a per mile basis over the course of 3-5 years it might appear to be a more palatable option for some of them. Not to mention the added resale to the next buyer. YMMV |

I’ve never been able to see any HUDs with my polarized prescription Costas and I need them more than I need HUD so I skipped it. |

1. Gives you more information on the track/spirited driving. 2. Gives you more information on the road, like speed limit and your current speed. 3. Gives you more information on your destination (which lane to be in, when to turn literally projected onto the windshield) 4. Is customizable and changes depending on which M mode you select. 5. Gives you in improved overall driving experience. You bought a luxury car, get the luxury items that make it more fun to drive and add to the sense of occasion, why even buy something as cool as a G87? 6. If you only drive during the day and live in a place that's sunny 24 hours a day, just buy some sunglasses that don't interfere visually. Or if you live in the real world where it gets dark and most of the time the sun isn't glaring constantly, spend the literal change and get something that's badass, it's not going to change the payment amount on your car.

i don't have it and don't really care about it. i have driven an X5 with it extensively and i ended up turning it off. i've posted this before but i think this a car that only makes sense under a certain mental $ threshold so my build was "everything you need and nothing you don't". just my $0.02

I have already specified it for my 2025 order, which was keyed in last week by my CA.
The HUD was the biggest thing I missed when trading in the 2018 Camaro 1LE for the 2021 M2. I never turned it off in the Camaro and always loved the convenience of glancing at the MPH and RPM on the HUD rather than looking down at the gauges. The HUD was especially useful on the racetrack. The Camaro version used converging bars that would start green and switch to yellow and red as the RPMs increased, just like F1 or IndyCar. You want to minimize looking away from the track to see gauges or whatever, and that's what the HUD does. I did wear polarized prescription sunglasses and the HUD was more difficult to see, but it was still visible with the brightness adjusted to the max. I see others talk about it being distracting, but I found the opposite to be honest. It displays at the bottom of the windshield, not in the center of your view. I couldn't imagine not getting it since it's available.

I have it in my i4 and will not buy another BMW without it.
I wear Maui Jim sunglasses (prescription and non-prescription) and the HUD is only slightly dimmer.

I was skeptical back in the day when HUD started to come out. But once I decided to try it I won't go back. There is A LOT of info that can be displayed all in one place.
And, IF you are driving defensively like you should be ( including looking ahead down the road and not at your hood) you don't even know it's there until you drop your eyes down and there it is. Totally worth the $$ to me.
