LMAO I get it, some of you guys & gals will never be able to let go of this quickly aging & almost outta here type of dated mindset. I once was with you guys. Back in the day when autos were considered slush slush boxes. But they're truly not & haven't been for a while now. Auto's have come a long way from what they used to be. And guess what, as engaging as you think it might be to have a manual shifter in your right hand, the fastest cars in the world on a track have fully built autos in them & when you're rounding a corner / hitting an apex at triple digits speeds have one hand on the steering wheel & the other on the shift knob you so hold as the righteous way to row through the gears... it's definitely not the way I want to hang tight as I take extreme corners. Remember that add campaign for Bullshift shifters I think it was. They said... "because in beteen gears... your car is just an expensive noise maker". I'm not sorry this will come in an auto. The manuals just aren't strong enough / robust to put all that torque down. My love for the manual dies almost 20 years ago. Back on topic. This G87 M2 CS looks sick & is well poised to bring even more joy to our faces... !

Agree, auto is the ticket to a faster track lap.. but M2 consumers are voting with their wallet on what they value most and over 50% are being ignored with this new CS. https://www.jalopnik.com/manual-tran...-s-1851150010/

If it’s $20k then it’s a maybe.
Any more than that I will have to just admire the car reviews.
I think F87 Comp -> CS was about $25k. And G82 comp -> CS ~$35k.

So probably, before tariffs, starting in the low 90s and easily optioned over 100.

You couldn’t be more wrong. I enjoy my ZF8 a hell of a lot more than I would have the 6MT. Both hands on the wheel. Actually driving and not dealing with the crappy 6MT. Your argument is very tired.

A 6MT M2CS would be going in the completely wrong direction. Unless they somehow reworked the 6MT into something mind-blowing.

Would the ‘mind blowing’ 6MT be so mind blowing that you could still shift ‘Both hands on the wheel. Actually driving….’ ? LOL

I kid I kid, just stirring the pot

This all comes down to personal choice for the driver, and money for the manufacturer.

Listen, i get that you bought an auto and that's totally fine. It's a choice you made. Trying to convince yourself that pulling a lever into "D" and clicking buttons on the steering wheel is somehow more fun than a manual is one thing, but you won't convince any auto enthusiast on this forum. You're not "actually driving" you’re just steering. Can't compare that to a manual where you have to fully engage with the driving experience. It is what it is.
Theres nothing inherently wrong with the ZF, it shifts softly when needed and quickly when wanted. On the back straights of Thermal, the transmission is smart enough to hold then downshift before putting down power. Hell, my crappy weather daily has the ZF and my wife's car has a DCT. I can drive both if wanted but wouldn't simply because I enjoy the art of driving.

BMW should have built a 6 speed CS for enthusiasts like they did with the F87CS and hell, even the 3.0 CSL. They all sold out when they were new, look at what Porsche is doing with the GT3 & GT3 Touring.
I still think they will towards the end of the G87 lifespan to boost sales. Fun cars deserve a engaging transmission and every G8X I've driven has been a blast.

I would agree with you but the BMW manuals are complete garbage and have been since E series. Truly pathetic they can’t fix this. Honestly, they could fix it. They choose not to for some weird reason. That would be very appealing to buyers if that when you are going to buy a special model ( CS/CSL ) spend extra money, maybe just maybe you can get a shifter to feel like a Civic!?!? Lol. To much to ask??

‘Complete garbage’? Really that bad eh, guess I will find out in a couple months.

Since I am not an expert, professional race driver, my guess is the manual is going to be fun fun fun

Oh man, this thread blew up with the classic arguments while I was away for the day, didn’t it?

These are always so funny… people going out of their way to explain why they like what they like and why others must be wrong if they don’t yuck a yum.

As I’ve said before, I’m sure many folks would love to kiss George Clooney, and that he’s an amazing kisser. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. I’m just not interested in George in that way - and again, George, if you’re on this forum, sorry, don’t mean to hurt your feelings.

Yup. Loved mine. 6MT is cool, but it’s not a necessity for a good car anymore, for better or worse.

With 25% tariff now in place coming into US from San Luis de Potosi factory, the wonderful M2 is no longer price-competitive in the US market

I think manuals are dying of but i do hope they give you guys the choice so you can choose the manual for those who can afford the CS badge anyway, would be nice maybe as an extra option to pay probably cheaper to mount the AT then the Manual these days but would be nice if guys got the option to choose.

Your options

a) Fully autonomous AI vehicle: You just sit and enjoy the ride. It steers, accelerates, brakes. All the nannies, never a skid. Perfect laps every time. No engagement.
b) Auto/DCT (This M2): You sit and steer, gas and brake, no need to shift any gear, ABS/Traction control, all the nannies. Less perfect laps, but fast. More engagement.
c) Manual trans: You sit, steer, gas, brake, clutch, shift. ABS/traction control (all the nannies). Even less perfect laps, not as fast but even more engagement. More sensory loading.
d) Manual trans, No traction control/ABS: Come with a change of underwear...

Everyone has their comfort level. You pick yours. Fast lap times gets old if you aren't engaged. Engagement gets frustrating if you aren't fast.

It depends on what BMW does.

On first pass thy were going to spread the tariffs across all models. Now with it on everything, we shall see. The fact that they make 450k cars here is the US may make it reasonable to distribute the tariffs among the domestically produced cars.

Who knows?
