wow that sucks. that why i only use my platinum AMEX for this very reason. They dont even question you when you tell them you have a claim.
If i were you I would tell them you will close your account with them, who knows they might give in and pay up.

Well...I doubt they will reimburse your money unless this was totally out of your spending habit. I know they would've reimburse me as I rarely buy anything over $200 in a single charge.

I feel the same way about debt, but I like the protection my amex card provides. Just do what I do - use your credit card for all possible expenses and just pay the entire balance down at the end of each month. No interest paid, no worrying about someone stealing your card...though you may pay a high annual fee, depending on your card. huge amounts of thankyou points accrued is also a plus.

word of advice for ya would be to use credit cards and not bank cards.
As mentioned above, just pay them in full.... You're about the dozenth person I've known that's had a situation like that happen and they still get fucked by their bank. On the other hand if it was entirely a credit card (e.g. my discover card)... all you need to do is dispute it and you're pretty much golden... they do the leg work of getting the tapes, etc etc. No fees attached, and you actually get money BACK. Go discover card, they're hands down the best from every possible angle imho |

Using a debit for all purchases is just silly and leaves free money on the table. Benefits of credit card: 1) Rewards (often times cash) 2) Summary Bill for nearly all purchases 3) Ability to hold your money longer since you only have to pay every 30 days 4) Less liability in shitty situations like these. Negatives: 1) Ummm 2) I guess if you can't budget money well, credit cards can be tempting ways to spend money you don't have |

credit cards offer protection that debit cards can only dream about.

If you run your debit card as credit 99% of the time it will go through just as it normally would, and for example if it's a Visa debit, the transaction gets all the protection from Visa as though it were a Visa CC, it's basically like your a CC with a limit of whatever your bank account is

Yeah, most banks actually suggest against using your primary bank account for CC or Debit transactions if you shop a lot online. They do this because of the fraud for the most part.
A real credit card is much better than any debit/credit card for the protection and points. Some credit cards have even more perks than just points... like free vacation and travel insurance, doubling the warranty on electronics, free insurance on rental vehicles, etc.
