I specified the Solstice GXP coupe, not the roadster I own.
![]() You guys realize that this is a low-production volume sports car and one of the last cars produced by the Pontiac brand? People are already asking more than MSRP for them. Just because you're not into domestics doesn't make them undesirable to a sizable chunk of the population. The phenomenon is identical to the metric that makes the Z3 M Coupes more valuable than the Z3 M Roadsters, just a different market. As for the 308: I wrote that any old car can be a classic. There are classic Gremlins, Vegas, Pacers, Yugos. For a car to be a collectible, it has to reach a value exceeding its original purchase price. Mid-engine V8 Ferraris depreciate - period. Too many cars, too often poorly maintained, poor bang for the buck. Michael Sheehan, Ferrari writer for Sports Car Market, says this in every other issue, and history has born him out so far. |

A classic has to have some desirability. And a horrible engine would pretty much seal its fate and put it into the "buy one cheap' category.

The Mallett cars. As far as I know, they didn't do any coupes and only 20 or so roadsters. Not long after they made them the company closed its doors but I've heard they're back in business. Oddly, I've already seen Mallett Solstices going for $20k.

Nobody's mentioned the Chrysler/Plymouth Prowler? Sure, as a car it was absolutely awful, but as a collectible- well it looks good, it has a lot of personality, and it was produced in low volume, so I think it ticks all the right boxes.

Supra... hands down, it's a rather ugly car but it still has one of the greatest engines ever produced. Toyota hasn't had and wont make a product like this for a while!
