EDIT: I went back to look at the initial damage and re-read the OP.. I thought you just curbed it parking!!! this makes way more sense hitting a curb at 25 mph but still.. holy M tax batman that's a lot of $$ for seemingly minor damage |

While one can hope the news isn't dreadful one must know the true extent of the damage and then ensure the car is fixed right. You did the right thing. The car will be fixed and put square as a bear and you can resume enjoying the car. I recall how upset I was when I hit a mule deer just 3 weeks after getting my 2003 Porsche 996 Turbo. This July 3rd. Several months later the car was fixed -- although it took a second trip to the body shop and another 30 days of time -- immediately after I got the car back the 1st time I took it to a body shop owner I knew and he inspected car. I had a list of issues that filled a page of letter size paper. Then I took the car to the local Porsche dealer and both senior techs looked the car over, one took off the front bumper cover and found issues, so I had a second page with issues. The body shop addressed them all. But that the car was fixed right and manifested no issues arising from the accident/repairs in the 8 years/151K miles I had the car allowed me to put the incident behind me. I can recall the details now without feeling like I have been gut punched. Turbo pic below. That was a $25K+ repair... |

Update: Got approved insurance estimate yesterday. $13,702. Steering rack was almost $4,900. Wheel hub, carrier, ball joint, 1 wheel, 2 tires, etc. comes to $9,590 parts + 18.3 hours labor. Hope the parts are available.

Can you take some of that money and purchase aftermarket wheels or is that not an option?

To replace all wheels especially with something nicer would add at least $2k to replace the other 3 wheels as well. |

Right, but if they can cut you a check for that $1K, I would take the money and get a set of Apex or other forged aftermarket wheels instead of waiting. Basically a $1K discount on a set of $4K wheels. Then again, insurance will be insurance, so I doubt they will play. Glad your car is getting fixed, hopefully you get to enjoy it sooner than later.

Save the mods for later. My advice involving repairs is to seek to have the car repaired as close to its pre collision condition as humanly possible. Factory parts to ensure the factory warranty remains in effect. After the car is repaired and you have spent some time with the car to again feel comfortable with the car then if you want to mod the car, in this case perhaps go with different wheels/tires, you have the factory wheels/tires (that you know "work") you can hang on to if you want to go back to factory. Or you can sell the factory wheels/tires to offset some of the cost of the new wheels/tires. |

Oh well. OP, sucks about the timeline, I suppose it's expected in this day and age. Here's to hoping the car is fixed sooner than later and you get to enjoy at least some of the summer drives.

Lived in Pittsburgh for 7 years. Yinz was easy. Slippy, jumbo and some of the other dialect took some getting used to.
