Wow, that's a bummer, but good to know this engine can seemingly survive these over-revs. Are you able to reproduce the issue outside of WOT or high RPMs?

Nope only at WOT top of the powerband. Thankfully I have it all on film and emailed it to my foreman at BMW.

I made my fiance come with me while I did some pulls in “Mexico” to prove I’m not crazy.

I will likely upgrade my clutch.
If you find a lightweight flywheel/ clutch combo please let me know. I HATE how heavy the flywheel is on this thing. I've never experienced anything like you have, but my RE short shifter was hard to get into gear

Sorry to hear this and I hope for the best warranty wise for you. Unfortunately if/when they find out you have the RE shifter they will probably automatically deny the claim.

Bums me out, I was all set to get the RE installed, now you story and the outcome has paused that plan.

Yep, it’s the exact same thing. Turns out no missed shift, it’s just gliding into 2 and bouncing off the gear back into N. Contacting BMW NA as the foreman couldn’t replicate. The good news is the diagnostics black box history report show 0 engine issues nor trans.

Car drives as normal. The guy did say changing the whole gear selector mechanism to an aftermarket one will help this, but would also void any warranty.

I’m still showing BMW NA the video I took so they are aware.

yeah, it was probably too late anyway. i know the FRS/BRZ folks had it so bad that they were taping over their VINs at HPDE days to prevent IDing online...

two_three_two That’s communism. BMW doesn’t care about mods unless you submit a claim. I always revert certain stuff to stock if issues come up, it’s worth the time.

I’ve learned that even with stock parts, BMW will fight every bit of the way to cover anything under warranty.

I couldn’t even get them to check my gear selector or drive shaft area where the carrier bushing was because they “didn’t feel anything” driving the car at normal speeds.

I told them, in order to replicate you need to be at the top of the power and in 3 and toss 4. They said that would be breaking street laws so we are now at a stand still.

They don't seem to care about laws on pre-sale test drives, what a lousy excuse on their part.

LOL fuck off BMW. and if you admit to operating at a track or closed course (airstrip etc) they will find a new reason to bitch about it. can you say it was on a dyno or something? whats the top of third, like 90 mph? there's 85 mph highways in TX...
