It clearly states the reason why they will not release a manual version….

Totally agree. Loss of DCT was definitely a premature & bad move, proof of that is that virtually all other manufacturers of performance cars are continuing with DCT development & implementation.

2026? BMW if you’re listening, that will be perfect timing to bring back euro delivery, don’t you think? With potential new tariffs on new cars, can this be a loop hole? Fingers crossed

Smart people don’t use a broker per say, they just know how to go about it logically, and they know how to negotiate accordingly, and they know how to walk if they don’t get what they want.

And then they know that if first they don’t succeeded they try and try again until they get exactly what they want and what they’re after.

In a nutshell, knowledge is horsepower and where there’s a will there’s a good outcome.

I emailed 5 dealers, pit them against each other, got 3k (5%) off sticker agreed and car ordered within 48hrs without ever setting foot in a dealership and investing around 1hour of total time.

Yes, I could have invested a month duration and 10 hours time to get 10% off... but it wouldn't have been worth it.

Exactly. I haven't set foot in a dealership to buy a vehicle in over 15 years & 20+ vehicles ago. I contact several dealerships in my area, out-of-state, etc. and tell them what I want & how much I'm willing to pay. It's that simple. I don't "negotiate" back and forth as it's a waste of my time. My financing is always secured ahead of time & I'll give the dealership the opportunity to match or beat it.

Re: a manual x-drive. The illusion on car forums that manual transmissions will have a high take rate is just that, an illusion. In reality a minute % of buyers will choose a manual transmission vehicle.

This is good timing for me. I will probably be ready to move on from my current M2 by 2026, and if I don't go over to Porsche, will look at this.

Why would they need to develop a new 6MT gearbox if they use the same base S58 with 406 tq and M x-drive? It is really just a regulatory certification cost/issue for another configuration that BMW does not want to invest in for such a small market that wants 6MT and M x-drive (aka-folks who live in the snow belt)

The upper bound of load on the clutch and gearbox is much higher when the wheels essentially will not spin. "develop a new gearbox" might be a hyperbolic description to some extent but it would have to be a significantly uprated box with a stronger clutch and maybe other parts too in order to be up to the standards for release.

If they could make the 6MT work in the xDrive G87 without any changes to it they would do it. The fact that they didn't tells you that something has to be changed and they aren't going to invest in it. Any single change in components would require lots of engineering time and rigorous validation, the ROI just isn't there.

It's really that simple.

I literally just got a 23 M240i xDrive because I am in Michigan!!! Will definitely be considering this in a few years, maybe once they hit pre-owned.

We have the same in the UK in terms of the MRSP but they knock £15,000 off them to sell and that's without haggling.

do they need to re-federalize the powertrain with the addition of two driven wheels? this alone would disqualify the manual too im sure..

What does a DCT do that you can't do with a modern ZF 8HP auto?

The modem ZF all the way back to the 6 speed ZF 6HP in an E90 has proven to be one hell of a box. Total lock up and low rpm, engine braking, rev matching, super fast shifts, no lift shifting, etc.

Not only does it do what a DCT can do but you can change shift speed from a snap your neck fast to a lazy luxury car feel.

The ZF killed the DCT.

If you prefer to pay $98,000 rather than $78,000 then good luck to you.
