I don’t know what “natural design for front fascias to improve instinctive recognition“ means, but the square intakes on the new car are less out of place than the fangs on the last one. These at least have some heritage and borrow from the e30 and e36. I’ll give you that losing interior buttons is a poor choice, but that’s not specific to this model and is across the range.

“Cost saving” gets thrown around a lot here but a few points on that:
1) this is the best equipped that the model has ever been. The last 2 models came out with regular series engines, this one is getting the S58 from the start. You can even get Merino leather on the buckets. Also not stuck with a black interior for the first time.
2) that CF drive shaft didn’t even make it through the F8x run and was killed because of the particulate filter on EU cars
3) outside of the F87 CS, this is the first time you can get the CF roof. Even including the CS, this is the first time you can have the CF buckets as well.
4) cost is a constraint on any engineering effort, and that’s a good thing. If the base M2 were $100k nobody would buy it.
5) the 1M/M2 are the poster children for low-cost parts-bin specials. That was the design brief from the start. “How can we take some of these ingredients we already have laying around and make something great?” They are the Mexican Pizza of the lineup.
Your post reads like someone who has a deposit down and confirmation bias.
1. Equipped with... What exactly? Auto trunk? Lane departure? Awesome. Not sure why it matters what it gets "from the start" if we are comparing to the M2C. That's semantics at best here. It's been years since I could order an N55 M2 which btw was a pretty brilliant car.

2. So OPF means we should stop adding weight reduction measures? Or should we blame it for cost cutting? Btw bmw leather is brutal so I'm not sure why you want to hype it.

3. What is the weight advantage of the "carbon" buckets vs M seat again? Great the CF roof. Takes a bit of an edge off the weight gain.

4. The base M2 just went up 30k Canadian, or in normalized terms, a Civic SI increase. So this should be fun to watch. But like parts bin car and all that because the new M2 totally isn't.

5. Right. The G87 is purely bespoke.

Sounds like this car is totally for you as you don't see any downsides. I am glad and hope you enjoy it. It's just not for me. If you can't see how the G87 has proportionally bucked decades old trends then it's true that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Personally I can clearly see the elongated hood, lower sloped JDM style roofline, and massive overhangs that kick traditional styling teneds and I'm not a fan. But as a standalone vehicle it's amazing.

To get you an idea of the G87 M2 size.

Compared to the E90 M3: the G87 M2 is wider + identical length + smaller wheel base.

Barely shorter wheelbase yet the back seats are tiny. I assume that means the front seats have much more space and feels much more open

I don’t have a deposit or plan to own one, your reading skills are failing you amigo. Not sure why you feel the need to make this personal or project onto me. We can leave it there.

Not sure how I feel about an M car made in Mexico. Looses some of the cachet of your high performance car being tinkered on by the best German craftsman and the world and then sailing on a boat over to the USA. At least, they had the excuse with the SUVs that all SUVs were made in Spartanburg.

Definitely not hand made… but there is an allure from the marketing.

Yes the M coupes and Roadsters because the US made all coupes and roadsters. Are Euro M2s being made in Mexico or at a German plan?

Exactly! The first was the Z3 M Roadster followed by the M Coupe (Z3) and then thr Z4 M Roadster and M Coupe. Currently there are plenty of M specific X vehicles produced at Plant Spartanburg in South Carolina.

Note, that Plant Spartanburg is now BMW’s largest manufacturing facility in the world. It has been highly successful.

Right, something about these images has me wanting red now over white. I'd still prefer silver or a dark gray but this red looks sharp with a bit of metallic shine.

I know M2 isn't a luxury car but I just realized even the X1 looks to have leather (or sensatec) dash and doors… M2 should at least have the option for this.

Even the 330 will give you standard sensatec dash and doors. M2 gets screwed.

Had to take my 2021 X5 in due to a engine light with 15k miles. Says radiator flaps break all the time. Awesome. Anyhow sat in couple models with the new screen. Ugh - just felt so odd. It's big but didn't have that cockpit feel. More felt like I was at my desk playing a car game…. Just put down a deposit for a CTR (#5) and a black wing ct5v (#9). Might be able to get one of these next yr and then maybe M2 LCI they will have address some of the body work and dash. Probably forgo my num 1 status for M2 at dealer.

They already went over their budget with the seats and the carbon roof this time for us so they have to screw the M2 some other way lol

I have a feeling the LCI won't address those things… just like the F87 LCI, the changes will be minimal cosmetics. I'm also sad about the loss of that cockpit feel… I wish the digital screens could at least have option to change the display to the old analog display

Why so much tire stretch on the M2? The 3 and 4 look great on stock wheels/tires, but the M2 definitely doesn't. So, we need it lowered, on spacers, AND tires?

Yeah right, they're charging 2600 cf and forcing a carbon pack to get buckets so they're actually making a ton of money on those options.
