Just as a quick example, try to find a public trash can.- Which you need more often than any other country because everything you buy is packaged to survive the 7th level of hell. Makes me chuckle just to think about it. And I am kind of spoiled when it comes to beaches, the Kamakura beaches are nice 'for mainland japan'. But I have seen some funky stuff (like a neon purple sheen) while living there. Glad you enjoyed it so much. Certainly worth the trip! |

Personally I loved my two years in Japan. I plan on going back as soon as I can. Can't say much about Europe as I've only ever been through and never visited.

Met a girl from NC that was moving to Okinawa for military. Will be stationed there for 2 years. Kind of a cool way to live and see the country.

Our daughter came back from Tokyo yesterday. She loved it and she's been to NYC and Moscow already(22 yo)
For me(having traveled a lot in Latin America) and been to NYC, Boston, Miami and a lot of Euro countries off course , the place to be living through the year should be Northern Italy, or better near Barcelona(my wife is from Colombia) but because of the crisis , that's still a no go, but Italy and Spain are my countries. And London. But the climate... Cheers Robin

Have never been to Japan, but I LOVE travelling to the EU. Can not wait to move there some day. Actively working on the process. Just applied for a job with Tesla, that could speed up the process.

Japan seems nice and I would definently like to go to Tokyo any time but I have to say Europe any day of the week.
People make it sound like Europe is one entire country, Europe consist of several different states and most of them are not like the other. Berlin, London, Amsterdam, Prague, Moscow, Paris, Rome, Monte Carlo, Copenhagen, Brussel, Barcelona, Vienna, Bern, Zurich, Budapest, Warsaw, Gdansk, Munich, Stockholm, Reykjavík, just to name some of the major cities. I have been to XX different weekends during summer time around Europe and haven't yet seen it all. Japan seems quite strict in comparisment with most countries in Europe, I might be wrong but let's face it, Europe is the most exciting continent. |

I have been to more countries in Europe than I have been to states in the US. I personally love Europe and would go there every chance I get. This time around we decided to go to Japan and do Europe another time (Yen is starting to creep up again). Japan is as expensive as the UK when the Yen is back to its former glory 6-7 years ago. As of right now it's about 50% cheaper than before. As you said, one can easily travel from one country to the next. Munich to Salzburg takes about 90 minutes. Because of that ease, I framed my question as Europe vs Japan rather than, for example, Germany vs Japan. When in Japan, traveling to another country requires you to fly or take a long boat ride. Flights from Japan to other Asian countries aren't cheap. In Europe, you can fly on RyanAir for $20 from Italy to France or Germany. As such, if I were to go to say Germany again, I would be driving or flying to other countries in Europe. Hence the "(general) Europe vs Japan." |

Pretty much been to all of main Europe except Spain and Eastern. Germany alone has seen me about 10 times in the last 6-7 years. Yet I would go back to Munich every chance I get.

It's funny actually. I know some people, usually Caucasians, that never want to even set foot in Asia. I have no idea why because every time I go to an Asian country, I run into a ton of Caucasians and they all seem to really love it there. Ran into some girls from Chicago, some people from San Diego, a bunch from Australia, etc. while in Japan and they were there for 3-4 weeks! They seemed to have really enjoyed themselves. Not saying you in particular since you're open to the idea of visiting Japan. But for those that have no interest in Asia, I feel like they're a bit too close minded and are missing out on a lot of things. It's like me saying I never want to go to Europe or Africa because I am Asian...if anything I have been to Europe way more times than I have been to Asian countries. |
