Just chatted in person with the local corvette guru. He told me if I ordered a c8, he would give me a $3k or so discount. That’s the first guy who told me he’d discount an order. This is significant because even though there are tons of C8s on lots now, there are no base interior Z51 mag ride verts. ($85k)

I mean, C8, 718 GTS and M2 are all phenomenal cars. I’m sure I’d be happy with any of the 3.
It’s jus that with the M2 BMW hit a lot of the key notes. - BMW just hit peak reliability - see the CR and JD Powel threads. - it is great tech with iD8, adaptive suspension and eLSD standard, I open it and start it with my Apple Watch. - It’s priced right. Produced in decent enough volumes that dealers can’t easily gouge you. - It makes more power than advertised. - it started life benefiting from the huge G8x aftermarket support. - it can sit 4 on local short trips. Yes, I have had 4 adults in it - no one complained. - It handles well enough to be fun, and is easier to do slight tail outs than the other 2. So 3 great cars - one just ticked a few more boxes for me.

I can see that. You’re not the only Porsche fan that shares such a sentiment. For me, the 992 is more attractive so that’s the direction I went. Two years in with my C2S and I couldn’t be happier.

I labored over committing to a Chalk 992, I wanted the base but couldn't live without a MT. Can't get that without going up to the S, but with the options I wanted, it almost made sense to get the GTS. All the sudden my $120k car was going to be $150k.. that plus the wait was more than I could make sense of.
We'll see if I live to regret it. |

Seeing a lot of comments about the GTS / GT4 being double the cost of the M2. Yet, haven't seen much mentioned that resale of the GTS / GT4 will be far stronger than the M2. Just my .02 cents.

It’s a bit too early to see where new m2 going to land. F87 comp going really strong. 20k miles 50-55k new was from 60k.

The M2 is an incredible value. And it even has back seats. If it were just a tick bigger, I'd use it for a family car. I would never own a Porsche in Germany. Vandalism and theft is a massive problem, and the thing would never leave the garage. Then again, this isn't much different with a BMW. |

But there are taxes and maintenance and insurance to consider in the TCO. Depending on where you live the taxes can make up a huge delta. And if you finance, the rates are near 8% for Porsche here because they can. I’ve heard of over 9% on the 992 GT cars as new from highly qualified buyers - because, Porsche. If you buy in cash must consider opp cost of investments. Let’s say the residual of the M2 after 3 years and 30k miles is 63%. That’s a loss of $25k. Perhaps less given the high demand. I’d guess the Porsche would cost you about the same over the same period & miles, given higher cost of insurance, taxes, financing, and maintenance. This asssumes you actually drive it 30k miles in which case you would see some depreciation as well. On sale from local Porsche dealers here: 2021 GTS4.0 with 10k miles: $100k - $10k down, $1.8k/mo 2023 GTS4.0 with 7k miles: $115k - $12k down, $2k/mo |

a decently optioned GTS is ~115k msrp..... you're like 15k away from being able to buy two M2, not sure resale even matters at that sort of gap

I think your assessment is pretty spot on. I think you will probably lose about the same, maybe a little less on the Porsche, but who knows? Car market has been whack past few years. Regardless, it depends what you like. I'd take either one Having driven nothing but M cars for the past 12 years, I have had the itch to get a GT4.

I agree with this. But for me, the GT4 is the only modern Porsche that remotely interests me. Great size and dynamics, and for some reason, the douche image just isn't there in the way it is with so many modern Porsche products.
Exactly this. The Cayman has always been top 2 or 3 on my list and it was #1 once (OG GT4), but I couldn't get the allocation. Precisely because it is not a 911. A lot of respect for the 911, but it seems to attract a bunch of posers who can't drive and are not even car guys. The 718 GTS, in particular is an understated sublime machine. The GT4 (non-RS) dialed it up just one more notch. RS is just too much for the street - I'd be embarrassed driving it anywhere near me. The perfect Porsche for me would be a gasoline powered Taycan - so much more beautiful and elegant than the Panamera. Wish they made one.
