M performance vs KW HAS
I know KW makes the M performance, but I'm wondering why I would choose the M version over the KW? KW appears to offer more adjustability and is less expensive.
What are the other difference? Which on are you going with, and why? I feel like this is something I can install myself as well. Anyone going the DIY route?

I am not sure exactly what the BMW version is being used (an exact "copy" of what KW is selling and if so, we also dont know if BMW is using the G80/82 part or did KW make a G87 specific part for BMW that is not yet available to the general public). Now, the advantage of the M Performance version...its a BMW part and would provide you with the benefits of installing any other BMW oem part vs buying from KW or a third party vendor and causing the part to be aftermarket. If I cant get it port installed, I will either purchase from M Performance and have my guy install (which I know he has experience in installing vs a random dealership tech) or go with a coilover from KW or H&R (which of course we are waiting on the manufacturers to actually release the products). |

Well port installation isn't an option for those of us with the car already. I'm asking about after market at this point.
I did email KW to see if they're intending to offer a G87 specific kit. I KNOW the G8x kits will fit, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are right for G87. In another thread I asked how G87 can come with different springs than the other G series cars, yet use the same HAS kits. No one has answered that.

Tuxon_Speed has a thread on KW HAS installed on his G87, The best fitment for the G87. From the looks of it the kit he got didn't come with shorter bump stops.

Most likely, if sending a general email to KW or H&R, you will get a general answer (which may not contain all the facts). How do I know this...my friend who does my work and knows the guys behind H&R...H&R is aware of the issue with the springs and causing from shock "blow out" and they are doing more research at this time (which will delay release of a G87 specific part). It appears they may need to design a progressive spring which may cause a shock to buyers, price-wise. He is also reaching out to KW for info (he knows them, as well). If I cant get port installed and be under the full warranty, I may wind up going with coilovers. Edited to reflect cant in the last paragraph Last edited by M_Power Rob; 06-07-2023 at 12:07 PM.. |

Thanks for the insights. I think I'm in "wait and see mode." This will likely be a winter project if I decide to do it at all. I previously indicated my reluctance but decided that if I'm going to go slightly bigger in tires and offset, might as well set the suspension too. I don't want to rush into it though. I'll wait to see what comes out G87 specific.

I thought it came with shorter ones too but wasn’t certain. I think he got his used and the seller might not have given him the bump stops. If I were in your shoes I’d get the KWs. Otherwise if my car was being built I’d go with M Perf and get them port installed.

By the way, assuming theyvare available from M Performance, you can order from them and have the dealership install and get a warranty (not the full 4 year/50,000 mi) but it will obviously be pricier. |

I ordered the KW HAS kit and it’s on the way, IND has it on their site and it’s listed for the G80/82/87. If there are any incompatibility issues then you would think they wouldn’t do that, right?

My concern is we know that G87 came with different spring rates than the bigger brother, so I'm trying to reconcile, then, how we can use the same HAS kits as the bigger brother. Fitment wise, no question they're compatible. Spring rate wise I'm still unsure. Maybe it's a non-issue. I don't know, hoping someone else does.

That falls under assuming and you know what they say when you assume... Its been identified that the oem/stock springs are not identical on the G87 compared to the G80/82. Is there a difference on the M Performance set vs KW direct? Only the shadow knows... With anything like this, its all about FTM. |

Probably something only a suspension engineer on this car can answer. Maybe you can ask the folks at BMWBLOG to reach out them for clarification. I'm assuming if they labeled the M Perf. HAS as compatible with the chassis, it's not going to wildly change the behavior of the vehicle. I highly doubt it's going to make it worse for daily driving limits.

Just received this from KW..., I replied back with my concerns. We'll see if they provide any more information.
"Good morning, Justin, Thank you for reaching out to KW Automotive North America regarding H.A.S G87 M2 kits. I don’t have data on what our designers are working on in Germany. I can email our Germany facility and see if I can get any information on this for you."

I would love to get a definitive answer, but I don't think any of us here have a direct contact inside BMW. Lol. Maybe the KW people can provide some insights. Let us know what they say.
