Noises E-brake, Entering, engaging DCT
Hey guys was wondering if anyone else was having a weird thud noise when you get in your car? So assume its been sitting over night, open the drivers door and hop in and THUD [and no I'm not fat 188 6'1] from underneath the car.
Then engaging/disengaging the e brake you can definitely hear it. And switching between R, N, D you can hear the DCT. Maybe I'm paranoid and can't remember from my M5 [or it has better sound dampening], just curious is hearing noises during any of those points? |

Noises have been common with others too. There is a thread about it too, I can't help you find it before I have had coffee, sorry.

Yep I think some just don't notice for whatever reason. Loud music, don't care, etc. I always am listening as my car starts for noises. DCT 'clicks' all the time and is a little clunky when it's cold. The clunk taking off the e-brake is just the car settling more than likely. If you're paranoid about noises an M3 might not be the right car for you lol.

Ok fair enough, but there are many different scenarios under which the driveline could be causing the same types of sounds. It's possible that the root cause could be related. Just an idea.

When I get in my car with the hand brake on tight .it sometimes makes a clunk, my E90 M3 did this too- nothing to worry about. DCT can be clunky when cold and so can the diff- same as in E90 M3- normal.

That makes sense this is the first time I'm really using it and haven't had a e-brake since last year with the m3 [m5 had that P button] |

Son, I'm not sure about M4 since I don't have it but in M6 there is the same noise...

Engaged it and unengaged it, still wouldnt move even with giving it a bit of gas. Tried again with even more gas. The instructors are saying the parking break probably got fused to the pad or something because it was engaged while possibly hot from the day before. They tell me to give it more gas. At this point, I'm sitting in this $110k car worried I'm going to break something. I'm pushing the throttle and reving the car to 3k and STILL NOTHING. The car acts like it wants to go but the super parking brakes say no dice. The instructor sees that I'm a bit hesitant on redlinning the car just to get it to move. He jumps in and i step to the side with handful of cars left behind me watching to see what happens. He just GUNS it and after some rather loud creaking the car moves and is off. He hops out and says, "good to go!". Crazy experience to start the day. Learned 2 things, really dont hit the parking brake after driving hard because it may want to get stuck. and 2, the parking brake is rather powerful if it can cause the M5 to need to rev to somewhere in the neighborhood of 5k rpm before it breaks loose. Needless to say that was an interesting start to day 2 of my M Performance school experience. /end off topic story, fathers and sons can rejoice |
