The worst luck - Not bad it turns out.
Okay. So maybe not the worst as no mechanical issues but its been two weeks in the car and I've got a rock chip (that I saw coming) which is on the hood and also chipped the windshield. It was a pretty big rock. This is one week before getting a clear bra.
Then today I discovered a nail near the wall of the rear passenger side tire. Assuming that it's too close to the wall to patch. I spoke with the clear bra guy from AVO clear bra and he suggested touching up after the clear bra is on. Anyone have any experience with getting a rock chip before a clear bra?

Sorry to hear. I dont know anything about clearbra, but it doesnt even sound physically possible to touch up after clearbra. This is the first car I am going to clear bra, and Im doing it with in a few days of delivery.
As for the screw. I personally would never run with a patched tire on a performance car like the M. Just not safe. D |

I also have a rock chip on my power dome. Oh well, the honeymoon is over and time to just enjoy the car with it's imperfections and all. I'm not even going to bother getting a clear bra. In a couple of years I may end up having the car painted another color.

That completely sucks. Sorry. In time the pain will fade...the first scratch, chip, etc. is the worst. In terms of the clear bra, my recommendation is to have the chip professionally fixed before you apply the bra. If you have the patience you can do it yourself (I don't) - multiple layers of paint (with drying in-between) will be needed, often with a wet sand of the last coat. PITA, but best done right given the location of the chip.

I can relate. I'm on my 2nd windshield. $1000 out of pocket.
Makes no sense that the clear bra guy would say that. Of course you'd fix paint first! Was he rushing you to just do the clear bra? I'm sure he wouldn't recommend that if it was his car!! Not to rant and rave but come on.... if he is good at what he does he should know better. Make sure you get a very detail oriented installer for your clear bra that wraps your edges and such. Don't accept a rush job. I'd recommend just fixing it - eat the loss and get back to enjoying the car. It's all you can do. |

I always get wheel/tire insurance so I can just laugh at the nails I get in my tires. But YOURS isn't funny though. That's a tough one!

Blame my lack of knowledge but isn't there something dealer can do for you for the paint issue?
Had a friend who's KIA optima was scratched on the side by another car within 30 days of delivery. Took it to dealership and they fixed it with no hassle.

This is certainly my opinion and not meant to disparage others of a different opinion but rock chips are a part of life. Hence I've never really understood the whole clear bra thing. I also don't think a thin sheet of plastic can really protect a painted surface from rocks hurled at 100 mph. Maybe, just maybe, I'd understand it if you did the whole car, but where's the adventure in that? These aren't museum pieces they are meant to be driven, road hazards come with the territory.

It's sensitive to recommend anything on safety related issues as tires but what I can tell you is that I got a bolt bigger than your nail in the rear driver side tire in my first set of new PSSs two weeks after I put them on my E90 M3. I had it patched, there's a lot of rubber in new tires and patches seem to become super strong. I drove over 20k miles on them with no issues. The location of the bolt was maybe 1/2 inch towards the center from where your's is. I don't do anything to prevent or remove rock chips. The first one hurts though

That nail in the tire should be patchable, as others have said. On the bright side, if it is not patchable, and you need a new tire, your other tires won't be significantly more worn down/older than that new tire, so you will be able to replace all 4 at once when they do wear down, and still get full use out of this one.
If that made sense. |

Sorry to hear man...
I think the nAil may be too close to the sidewall to be reliably patched...usually a nail on the flatter tread area is fine...had a near exact scenario on same tire (albeit smaller) amd tire shop advised against. As for the chip...my opinion is a small ding is less noticeable than a clear bra line across your hood IMHO.

many people dont realize but most tires have road hazard insurance included for free directly from the manufacturer. i had the pirelli's on my 550i and got a nail in my tire within the first week. the dealer, of course, wanted closed to $500 to change it. i decided to call pirelli and they told me it's covered directly through the dealer, i didnt have to pay and be reimbursed. for some reason the dealer either didnt know or just didnt tell me...

Worst luck is to drive a car for two days and then having it sit for 3 weeks for a rear diff issue... These are minor issues and can be fixed, they are more of an annoyance than anything else

Definitely not the worst luck - (DCT issues guy, etc)
I'm doing 12 hour shifts at work so my wife offered to take it in to see if it can patch and I told her to make sure if it cant be patched to find a place that has a PSS available. Told her to try Costco. Will update on that. I'm going to touch up the paint myself. You guys are right it's a small thing and i'm not going to touch up over clear bra.

I got a nail on my rear passenger 19's two days ago. I've had my F80 since 6/17. The dealership just ordered a new one and it will be here today. They didn't have any difficulty.
Now the annoying part is the dealership is saying an adjuster may have to come out to accept the tire package claim. This is my first time buying the wheel/tire package. It's seems like more of a hassle to come out for a $400 tire, especially when I have to pay a $50 deductible. |

Okay, so got the second opinion from a reputable tire shop. The first tire shop just eyeballed the tire and said no.
The second tire shop took the tire off and inspected the inside and deemed it okay to patch! $30. The End. They quoted me $440 for material and labor for the tire that they got delivered as a back up.

That screw is in the shoulder, I just had a nail in the same spot on one of my SO4 pole positions and Discount Tired deemed it not repairable. Everything I've researched online shows that the shoulder is not repaired. Did that tire shop have you sign a waiver? Also I dunno if I would want a tire with a shoulder repair on a high performance car...
