Has anyone bought M-track.com app?
I was sitting here at the computer and my son brings up the latest issue of Roundel and the page falls open to the ad for M-track.com. I was like, "hmmm...interesting, this must be the app that they were talking about" and then I tried to load it up on my iphone and it is $249....well, that's one I would have to get some input on...Anyone buy this and try it yet?

$250 for an app sounds crazy. Doesn't look like it's from BMW either. I see it can add heads up to any car, I believe it must entail just sticking your phone on the dash under the windshield lol.

Don't be surprised if an M Performance software upgrade becomes available from BMW for this!

Down to $199.00 today! Get them while they're still available.
I looked through it and honestly can't figure out what it does any more than the free BMW lap timer app. HUD? How?

Harry's Lap Timer, aLapHD, and Track Master. All cost way less and have more functionality.
Harry's and aLap have the most features but Harry's highest end product isn't on android. aLap is awesome but is no longer supported. Fortunately it is a solid app. Track Master is actually the most in depth for data and remote hosts all your times, laps, and sessions BUT it doesn't support OBDII recording (which would make it the best imo) I would suggest for iOS users going with Harry's. Android users should go with aLap or Harry's. I love track master but OBDII recording is a must for me. THIS m-track app is bullshit imo. For 250$ you can buy one of these 3 apps, an obdii sensor, and an external gps (which you will want for super accuracy) |

I am actually surprised GoPro hasn't gotten in on this market yet. Especially with a version that was setup to work well as a dashcam (though I know it has been done) BMW and GoPro are in a very great situation right now since there is the gopro idrive app. They could release something similar to GM's performance data recorder. I would pay for that. Integrated into the car to record track data and video and if they really want to sell the option have it also act as a dashcam that could be enabled/disabled via idrive. Integrate it all into the review mirror camera that's used for highbeam assist. Then you don't have an actual gopro hanging down in the car so it all looks very OEM. GoPro can have their logo on the side of the mirror housing since you know they would want their branding somewhere. And then again in the menu in idrive. And it needs to be on all major platforms (ios, android, winmo)
(ok I am done dreaming) |

OK WOW! Great feedback. I was wondering what the thoughts were and experience. Since I'm not going to be on the track more than once a month, probably not even 6 times this year, I will forgo this app.
It would've been nice to have a great app (had I remembered to download it before ED) while on the Nurburgring and Spa, but I was too busy uploading pics to facebook! lol |
