Just got my first ticket in the M
I haven't driven my car in over a week and planned to drive it today all week long.
Noticed I forgot to push my "M" button when I left my house. I was about 1 mile from home when I noticed. Pressed it and have a little throttle and them the dreaded laser alert on my V1 went off. Bike cop on grass on other side of sidewalk behind a retaining wall. He hit me going 60. The street was a 35, always thought it was a 45. Anyway, he wrote me up for 44, and went on his way. At least he didn't hit me for tint..... What a shitty Friday. D |

i got pulled over the *first* day i had my m4. for no front license plate. this sakhir orange color sticks out like a sore thumb. and i think its color draws attention from law enforcement and thus caught the officer's eye. ugh.

I'd say my stats in this are solid. 24/0.
You might be faster than I, but I sure as hell spent a lot of time in August chatting up cops.

+1 Be courteous and honest and you have a good chance of at least a reduction in the speed on the ticket or even outright not getting one. OP was probably courteous and the cop gave him a break. It's solid advice and gotten me out of a few myself.

OP, he did kinda do you a fav, over 20 mph and the ticket can become much more serious, in most states. Probably in CA as well.

With me it's always the same story, they are checking out the car, pull next to me go into a full panic mode "Holy shit that's a female" pull back, and lights go off. I hear them miles away, so I'm never speeding at that time. Quote:

45 normally will normally put you in a different fine bracket. Also, just be aware if you go to court the cop has the right to bring up that he had you at 60 in a 35 and wrote you for 9 (44mph)over which in most states will be the same as being 1mph over. I would check and see if your state has a point system and what the costs are, before you head into court.
Its 50/50 if they show up, and people are right if you are cool to them. They A) Cite you for less B) Your forgotten and they don't show up or fight a lesser... often times more costly upfront non moving violation. I take tickets as a right of passage. You should of run, you could of taken him on the straights.. Best bet would of been oral happiness and cup of coffee. Last edited by DocWeatherington; 09-12-2014 at 07:56 PM.. |

Hey guys, few responses. So yes I am a bit lucky (60 in a 35 is considered reckless driving), but also unlucky. One of those, I decided to take that road instead of what I had planned and always take, and then bam, ticket. So it feels unlucky. I also wasn't, speeding for fun or racing, I just looked down and was doing 60. It doesn't feel that fast in this car.
As far as with the cop, yes I was very honest and humble, and he was very nice to reduce the speed. He did write on the ticket that he trapped me at 60. He said it's the most unsafe intersection I the city, and he is there to make examples of people, so he couldn't let me off. D |

Sorry for your ticket. i was under the impression that cops write you a ticket with a lower speed number to make you think you got off easy so you would just pay up instead of hiring a lawyer to fight it.
A lot of people in my city hire lawyers and the city have made it so that if you have a lawyer, the court would still make you pay but you don't get a record so no insurance increase. You pay the ticket and the lawyer.

I think I am paying $600 per 6 months for just the M3, plus however much for my other cars and house insurance together as a package.

I've gotten a warning just about every time using this method. Also showing compliance with your hands on the wheel and your windows down usually helps as well. Helps alleviate the initial sweat of pulling someone over. It may be anecdotal, but it works for me. |

Officers at least in California are trained in visual speed estimation and use visual speed estimation first before activating their LIDAR, so it is a two part process. A officer can issue a citation for speeding just by visual speed estimation without the use of LIDAR or radar. So while a laser jammer sounds good in theory it is not full proof. I believe the OP is from California and laser jammers are not legal and are easy to locate in the grill assembly of the vehicle.
