Random Parking Brake Engagement
I very rarely use a parking brake, unless I park where it's not level. My garage is level, where I park at work is perfectly level. The parking brake on this x15 seems to engage itself at random times for no apparent reason. It is very irritating to put my foot on the brake and start the engine, leave my foot on the brake while I put it in gear and take my foot off the brake and expect to go, and nothing happens. Then I have to look at the instruments to see that the parking brake is engaged. Then I have to put my foot back on the brake to disengage it. I did not engage it. Does anybody know why this thing apparently engages on it's own at random?

Are you sure you don't have the auto hold on? That is the option which allows you to take your foot off the brake at a stoplight. I know I have used it before and it will engage the parking brake automatically when you turn off the car and come back to it.

Yeah, that could be, I use it sometimes. That's why I asked. I had no idea the two things were connected. I'll keep that in mind and see if that's the connection. I can't see any logical reason why that would be, but that's what happens when the engineers let the lawyers in the building.

I don't think I've used my emergency brake at all...not yet anyways. Let us know if the above remedies the issue.

Yup, it's the Autohold that's doing it. Kind of irritating, but at least now I know what's doing it. Thanks guys. I'll file it under "First World Problems".

I think another way is the "roll away" if you leave the truck in D and open your door it will put the brake on.
I parked my truck once and still had room in front of me so I went back in and started it to move it forward with the door open and it hit the brakes and said "roll away" so I had to shut the door to move up a little. I doubt that is your situation but just another way of the truck putting the brakes on by itself with out the driver engaging it. |

As the guys suggested it's probably to do with the Auto-hold.
I know this might seem quite random but I always advice to engage the parking brake whenever you shut off the car. I don't know if it's just me but I see that not engaging it is a security risk. Better safe than sorry! |

Yes, I've confirmed that it is indeed the Auto-hold. I don't think an automatic transmission car needs the parking brake on in my garage, which is perfectly flat, which feeds out onto my driveway, which is perfectly flat. I guess I'm a rebel, living on the edge like that. Risk is my middle name.

Ha. No way. Leaving the parking brake off is as risky as I get. Oh, and 165mph. (On the track).
