Something that drives me crazy

Yesterday I saw an f15 Msport on the road. Car looked decently well taken care of but had brutally filthy rims, charred greyish black from brake dust. It drives me crazy when people spend 70-100k on a vehicle and don't take a few minutes now and then to clean the rims. It made the vehicle look like it was 10 years old.

Needed to vent on this one. I see it all the time with German brand vehicles around Toronto and everytime I want to roll down my window and yell at the person to clean their damn rims.

You'd seriously yell at them?

I don't know how it would end up if I do that here. Generally speaking I tend to drive my car rarely to the Car Wash at winter times and this is when my rims look awful. Isn't the weather pretty bad down there in Toronto?

Haha. No I definitely don't yell at anyone. I said I would like to tell at them. And yes the weather is pretty bad here in the winter.

Does anyone know if BMW went to lower dust pads like they did on my 2011 335i? That car barely dusts compared to older BMWs I've had in the past which had terribly dusty pads which made your wheels look black within a week.

Maybe because I have 22s, but I never get brake dust on my wheels...ever. It's either that or I just brake better than others? Eaaaaaase into them....

2017 BMW i3  [0.00]
2020 BMW  [0.00]
It seems like there is less brake dust on my 15X5 than I had on the 11 X3. May be the darker wheels also. I will get a better idea in the spring when I can put the 469 MSport wheels back on.

I don't have any knowledge of specifics, but based on experience from the last 3 bimmers I've had compared to this one, yes, the F15 most definitely produces less brake dust than previous cars. M-sport, 469's. There is absolutely no question, there is that much difference.

Hmmmm...I guess you'd be driving behind me wagging your finger almost all the time! My interior is spotless. The exterior not so much. It was washed when it went in for service. Since I want it hand washed and I'm lazy, there wasn't much washing going on in between. If it were smaller perhaps I'd wash it more often, but its not, so I don't.

I didn't buy my car for other people to admire it. I bought it for how it drives, the advanced electronics and the awesome interior.

Though I have to admit, I'm a rim admirer myself. With my E53 there were times when I'd go out and just wash the rims. However, the brake pads on the E53 were Way dustier. And those were my most favorite rims that I have had on any car both before and since (simple style 69) so I took better care of them.

If the F15 has lower dust brake pads then I'd hate to have the older dustier pads on anything. My front rims get filthy from brake dust in a few hundred miles after being cleaned.
Way worse than my previous RX450h, but then that did nearly 60,000 miles to a set of front pads due to much of the braking being done by electric motor/generator.

Have to agree here! Can't understand the dirty wheels - I always thought if nothing else; MAKE SURE YOUR RIMS ARE CLEAN! Car can be a mess but, the wheels must be clean!

Dirty wheels don't bother me much, but if you're driving in front of me for miles with your turn signal on, I will wish I had a slingshot to turn it off for you... We all have our pet peeves!

Hahaha, agreed. The problem is some people don't see the turn signal indicator still on with the steering wheel is very low (the top of it covers the turn signal area in the cluster) and if you have music on, you can't hear the clicker. That's why a lot of people like HUD turn signal coding. It used to bother me a lot when people had their turn signals still on for miles, but now that I understand 1) they don't hear/see it because of the above mentioned info 2) they could just be an old person. You can't fault them for that .

I notice a lot of turn signal offenders have their windows rolled down, so wind noise keeps them from hearing it. I'm making a list of coding stuff that would be good to have and HUD turn signal would be a great one!

Perhaps we could all hire chauffeurs to do these kind of things for us. Not to drive it...but hang around all day to make sure its clean!

I wish the dealer had a "we'll wash your car whenever you want" program. I'd buy that in a heartbeat! Although, the dealer did do me a solid when I had a diesel incident once. Boy was that stinky.
