Question Learning new X5: Lock question

Scenario: The car is set to lock the doors as I start driving, which I like. After I turn off the car and exit the driver's side (key still in the car), the other doors and rear hatch remain locked. As this doesn't work like my last car where everything unlocked upon putting it in Park, I frequently go to open the rear passenger door or rear hatch, find it locked and have to go back to the driver's door to pressed the unlock button.

Is there a way to have all doors/hatch unlock when I put it in Park or when I turn the car off/exit other than having my key in my hand when I attempt to open those doors?

It could just be a lesson in never leaving a key in the car, but there are many practical situations when my purse/key is in the car and I need to get into a non-driver door and I'd like to not have to hit the interior unlock button every time. Is that possible?

I promise I did try to find it in the manual before asking!

Yes, through coding.

Unlock when STOP Engine: BDC_BODY / 3040 / VAM_UNLOCK_KL15OFF_AFTER_PIA_AUTO_LOCK / change nicht_aktiv to aktiv

Does this mean that the car will unlock when the start/stop system is activated?

No, it has nothing to do with the auto start/stop button. When you hit the start (circular main) button to turn off your engine completely (one button tap), it will unlock all your doors.

I supposed so, otherwise it would unlock every time you get to a stop Thanks

Lol, yes, that would be quite dangerous especially if you have young children .

I recently changed my key/lock settings (in the settings menu, not coding) so that only the drivers door opens unless you hit unlock on the remote twice. As a side effect of this I've noticed that when I turn the car off and exit the car only the drivers door unlocks (and I can't get the kids out without using the remote). So I'm going to change that setting back because the whole car used to unlock upon exit (unless you leave the engine running).

I changed the setting for the occasions when my wife drives alone and would prefer not to unlock the whole car when she gets in but if you have kids you probably want the whole car to lock/unlock.

I'm not sure if these settings vary by region - I'm basing this on UK settings.

They do vary be region. Euro markets (including UK) have a lot of coded/preset features that are decoded in the US. We have to code to allow this feature as I mentioned above (pretty stupid on BMW's part; they should have the same option in the iDrive menu to enable/disable this feature for everyone). Oh well, at least it's not impossible .
