Who owns the spare tire?
A deer wrecked my 2012 X5 and my local dealer took the 2012 as a trade as though the repairs were finished for a 2015 X5.
My dealer did not look at the E70 partly because it is as a BMW approved body shop. They asked me about mileage and tires and general condition of the interior. Now I am preparing for a 3K mile trip (leave next week) and I noticed that my E70 has a spare tire - the small tire - but my F15 does not have a spare. Both X5s have run-flats but I will be a good distance from BMW dealers and even tire companies when I take I-40 from OK to AR then down to AL before going to GA, NC, and TN. So do I mention the spare tire to the BMW sales agent or is it my property to keep? I am losing the hard-wire install for the V1 (with a V1C LE) and the new tires on the 2012 have very few miles on them. __________________

Spare tire was an extra option for f15's. I believe the dealer would own the spare from the e70.

Thanks for the feedback. I picked up the spare today in the body shop viewing this as an accessory.
On the other hand, I left carpeted floor mats (front and rear) with the 2012. But I kept the all-weather mats I purchased as well as a mat for the cargo bay.

Not quite that simple. I had a '14 F15 with the "space saver spare" -only a $150 option. And after reordering I have a '15 without. I had asked the dealer to remove the spare from the '14, but they could not. There is a post welded to the frame that holds the spare tightly in place, coming through the center of the wheel. If you intend on placing a spare in the subfloor storage area you have to find a safe way of securing it. Rattling noise can be managed with padding, but you don't want a tire flying out in a horrible accident and amplifying the risk even more. It can be done, but I advise you do so with care and not just removal of the liner and placing a wheel in there. I even asked the dealer to consider leaving the post in place and having it protrude from the storage liner, but they would not, after consulting with BMW. Two cents. |
