After hearing this, the M3/M4 sounds great
If you think the sound of the new M3/M4 doesn't sound good, just listen
to some of these cars. All in all, I've found that 80% cars pretty much sound the same. Or could it be like xmas at Macy's after a while they all smell the same. For fun, here's my take Best sounding - Ferraris / GTR's / New Charger Hellcats Didn't care for the Corvettes, Jag's, Ford Mustangs & Camaro Most surprising old VW bus. Actually sounded good Most intriguing. Fisher Karma. No sound Sorry no F80/F82. There was a E92 sounded very subdued, yet i always thought it made a racket. |

Haha. That is true on tape, but not in real life. I was stuck in the lights yesterday, and I heard it before I saw it, a C63 went past, and I admit the car has grown on me.
I like subtle things with a twist. A corvette would never suit me, since making one look subtle is impossible, where an M3 will go unnoticed by the masses. Same goes with the C63. Then you can just turn it into an obscene beast with colors, mods, and so on. I know I'm a freak.

yes i have a f80 and i agree that it doesn't sounds so great in compare to c63, or even a F30 335i M performance (i m talking about this M performance edition: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=909424)
i was at a traffic light, we both push on the throttle gently, but it's soooo obvious the f30 335 MPE sounds way better than a stock f80 m3 |

I have an eisenmann under mine, and that's about 5k worth of metal when it comes to your house, which is roughly 10% of what my car is worth now. Car feels pretty much the same, though it sounds a lot better. Now, I didn't bother to google the price for the mpe for 335, but I'm willing to bet its around 10% also. So far so bad for me. Now, next time you pull next to the same guy, push the throttle gently (no SO in a car meet style needed) and you can see a really good view of a 335 for a few seconds till its too far behind to be spotted. Modding is always stupid. It is only needed on cars that have little else going for them, or if your neighbor complains about your stock car being too loud. I had the second reason for my actions.

I got my MPE for roughly 6% of my vehicle cost. Much more at MSRP but thats why you negotiate. I figure when I'm done with it I can sell it for 70% of what I paid.
Your 5k included a full mid pipe tho right? MPE replaces the resonator but not the secondaries. Quote:

I think it's like anything else: what you're used to. I grew up around V8s and people buying busted out 70s muscle cars and fixing them up. Then I started buying V8 cars, modding the exhaust etc ... and so for me the V8 sound is the sex. That said, I also like a good p-car boxer.
Probably the best sounding engines to me right now are the C63 and the Hellcat. I appreciated the E9x with a modded exhaust - sure the scream was epic, but actually my favorite was around town: giving 'er some throttle from high gear / low RPM, she gave off this deep building growl - not loud, just deep - it just sounded pure evil. People who rode in car and had no idea what it was would hear that and say, "oh my god, what kind of engine is in this thing??" I'm getting used to the F8x sound, but it will never be that evil V8 growl. I'm sure gonna miss that. |

Still, to piss off neighbors great (she actually had a broom un her hand a few days ago when she came to shout at me), but I doubt any mods would make the 335 an appealing option for me. There is nothing insane about it.

88 Mustang 5.0 (Coupe) 93 Mustang 5.0 (Flexy Flyer(Hatch)) 99 Mustang GT (horrible car) 99 Mustang Cobra 96 Z28 Camaro 99 SS Camaro (Blew up on the bottle at the drag strip) 01 Trans Am WS6 01 Ford Lightning (Sounded beast with the whining) And then I officially made the switch to German cars. Which I owned two E9x V8s. I think I have a pretty good idea of how "Muscle V8s" sound. The new car definitely sounds different and is pretty crappy with stock exhaust. Everyone paid for the systems on the E9x not sure why it's such a big deal now. The prices are dumb but they are what they are. MPE was expensive as hell for the E9x. BUT... Once you put a good system on it I think it sounds like a freaky mix between a Subaru STI and a Supra Turbo. I'm really starting to like it. |

yes i do, it costs at $3k to $4k range?! and it sounds like with M1 button activated... correct me i m not on the right track, since i never hear in person, only on youtube video.
i was driving a e92 6 spd (328 only ) with PE installed... i admit it does sounds good and way way way better than e92 stock... and it got burb kicks in when u release throttle (shifting)... but f80 6 spd, no burbing at all in this case, i would not like to spend $3k on a MPE just because of the burb with little enhancement on the overall performance? umm... |

In efficient mode my car sounds exactly like stock and I love it. In sport or sport+ it has a noticeable growl at low RPM and is a monster above 4500 WOT. The fit and finish is amazing. |

And you are correct, there is no gain in performance worth mentioning with the MPE. It is a sound and cosmetic improvement only. It is closer to $7k CAD MSRP though... |

To be fair besides the AA claims there are no performance gains with any exhaust unless you change the downpipes.

My f30 335i MPE was $970 (I believe sticker is $1,400). Yup. And it sounds delicious. Probably what I will miss the most going to the f80, until I can get an MPE. |
