Lightbulb 2016 F80 M3 LCI spotted for first time

BIMMERPOST NEWS
F80 M3 LCI spotted for first time

COMMENTS

We believe this is the first look and visual evidence of the F80 M3 LCI coming this Summer, to coincide with the F30 3 Series LCI. The Autogespot photographer calls this an M2 (F87) prototype, but we believe this is the F80 M3 LCI. The wide fenders and quad exhaust indicates this is an M model.

The strongest evidence this is the F80 M3 LCI are the tail lights, which although still camouflaged, look very similar to the revised LED tail lights seen on 3 Series LCI prototypes. The rear profile, trunk cutline and roof height also resembles the M3 Sedan more than the 2 Series Coupe. The double-stalk mirrors look to be that of the M3. Lastly, according to the U.S. 2016 model year production schedule, the 2016 M3's model code is 8M93, while the current one is 3C93, signals a significant change.

To date, no M2 prototypes have yet been spotted with unique (from 2 Series) tail lights, nor M styled side mirrors. M models generally do not receive LCI-type updates (i.e. revised tail lights) before the standard series model counterpart, and the 2 Series Coupe is not expected to receive an LCI update until 2017.

The 2016 M3 LCI begins production this July.

Those pics killed any further speculations about OLED for the F80 LCI.

Really thought that the OLED were going to be added for the LCI but still early to say whether or not they will go forth with it

I think they should gone with those tail lights with '14 model.

The F80/82/83 itself is special and above F30/32/33 so standard 3/4 series should followed it's M model.

I guess a lot of current M3 owners will put on those tail lights.

So the M3 will have full LED rear lights, but the more expensive M4 won't?

I'm getting my 15 soon. Couldn't care less about some LCI. You will never be happy this way. But it does work for those who want a 2016. Price will be up too no doubt.

Yes, this is definitely the F80 LCI. If you zoom in close enough, you can see the quad exhaust.

I'm happy I decided to wait a few more months to get a 2016 model. Granted lights are not a significant upgrade, but enough for me to wait a few months to get.

Same thing happened with the E90. The F30 - which the M3 is based off of - is three years old now which means it's due for an LCI. So the M3 gets it as well.

Right. M4 will get an LCI with the 4 Series in a few years just like the E92 got one in 2011 while the E90 got one way back in 2009. History always repeats itself when it comes to LCIs with BMW - we should all know this by now.

Just as with the past two generations of M3, the front end gets no update. Just LED tails.

The F80 already comes with full LED headlights as an option so no change needed there. The F30 will supposedly gain the LED option for the LCI as well.

This is always the case with LCI M cars. Technically M cars do not get an LCI, just the updated LED tail lights from the AG car and other small updates like changes to the iDrive. The E9X M3 got the updated tail lights but front end never changed. Even when the LCI E92 3 Series got LED angel eyes, the M3 continued production without that update. As we have seen, M cars come out after the AG cars have been on the market for a couple years so the first MY M car will probably only be on the market for a year before the LCI version comes.

Hard to see with all the swirls but it looks promising, BMW usually have a way of making the whole car look significantly refreshed with these minimal changes. Could be worth a few months wait. The E90 facelift seriously dated the look of the pre-LCI hopefully this is a similarly well executed LCI.

And yes I don't care about what it does to my car, I choose to look forward and in the end my car will still look the same I always like to see improvements as much as possible.

OLED's we will first see on the F82, since that was what the concept car was shown as. I think we will know more in March at the Geneva autoshow.

I'm sure the M3/4 owners who recently took delivery of their new car are pissed. Why BMW doesn't add LED's to the pre-LCI cars is beyond me, and makes me feel cheated.

Don't worry folks, if you wait for LCI's and updates no on would buy a car. Interesting to see though of course, changes coming soon.

BMW should do what Ferrari does; come out with all the proper equipment from the start and not change anything (less any design or engineering flaws) until the new generation. They would gain many more sales from the start and all owners would retain greater value in the future.

Just sayin

A LOT of people change their cars at LCI. So BMW sells them a new one about every 3,5 years. If nothing was changed they will only sell them a new one every 7 years.
