F*ck Snow

Well its now 7 degrees mid day in Charleston WV, and due to hit -10 tonight. There is a foot of snow on the ground with none melting and everything is turning to solid ice The kids are missing an entire week of school. My office and surgeries are down 50% due to cancellations.

But all of that is not as bad as not being able to drive my M4! Even when it is dry the salty roads and freezing temps make the tires slick so I end up driving like an asshole on accident instead of the usual on purpose.

Any one from Texas/Cali/Florida that chimes in may feel the rath of all us us east coasters covered in snow or frozen in. It's way worse for the northeast. I feel really bad for them.

The best thing to do during the times when the car is stuck in the garage is to mod it. My car will look different in March compared to what it looked like in December.

Any yeah, anyone with palm trees growing in their state can move along.

I love snow.

Honestly, you could send every flake of it out here where we have ski resorts closing because of #!$!@$ el nino. If its gonna be winter, I might as well be on the slopes (and having fun getting there)

A foot is a bit harsh, but do you have winter tires on the car? (not familiar enough with West Virginia to know where it falls on the climate for tires gauge....)

+1 for the snow.

I haven't driven my M in 2 weeks. Reading these forums and seeing all the mods and pics is starting to piss me off. Global warming my ass.

No winter tires. I have a jeep wrangler for that. It's just so much fun to drive the M that when I don't I really miss it. No hope in site in the next week. Nothing is going to melt.

Yes I argue with my liberal friends all the time about that. Get with the times though, they have moved on to climate change. I could use some global warming right now.

If you really want to drive the M in the snow and cold, just get a set of winter rubber.

Even in these freezing conditions, my RWD F30 has handled it effortlessly. Even went out early Tuesday morning to enjoy the unplowed and deserted roads in search of empty parking lots.

Yeah, with summers this car would be impossible to move in the snow. If you get snow regularly enough (or even if the temp gets below +7C which is....like 45 F) I would think about getting winter tires next year. They will handle the snow and, even if it is not snowy but just colder than 45F, they will give you much better traction on the pavement than the summers. It will let you go hard on the M all year long.

(and, not kidding, send the snow here.)

Guys as a Finn and we do crazy shit in the snow, I feel obligated to warn you it can be very dangerous to fuck snow. I suggest you see your doctor first and get your hearts checked, the shock effect of cold can be too much even for the younger ones here.

If you've given up on women or men, I would suggest something warmer than snow.

LOL, sounds to me like you are driving it just fine!

The traction-less bone-dry salty roads have made tail-out antics a part of my morning routine when coming out of the neighborhood. Even with DSC On, the car easily gets sideways. Of course I have the throttle to the floor, so that helps. I am sure the drivers a quarter mile behind me or up the road are none too impressed when they see the tail lights or headlights go off course.

Hey DrJay, I'm about 45 minutes west of you with an M4 on order. This is the most snow I've seen since I moved down here ~13 years ago. Definitely sucks about your M4 right now, but I bet that Wrangler is fun. I've been having a decent time so far, but am definitely ready for warmer temps.

Thanks man.

I got some serious for her. Even better, break in service is set for Tuesday and am sooo looking forward to that!

(ps - the one reason I hate the snow is it makes that car/colour totally impossible to keep clean once the roads get salted....a small price to pay though and, given the dry/warm winter we are having, not too bad to deal with this year anyway)

Yeah, that ain't pretty either.

I envy you all who have snow. I miss the insanity of it and I actually miss worrying if my car will even start.

If I lived in the eastcoast, I would have to have something like a Raptor to enjoy the snowy days. Then again I might get the new one for my off roading weekends out in the desert.

Just go look at my thread op and youll feel better lol

but hopefully you're all smart enough to realize adding energy ("warming") to a system doesn't actually me temperatures rise. This mixes scientific terms with layman's terms ... and with "global warming" it means the Earth is quantifiably receiving more the Sun's energy on scale and slope that's never been seen in millions of years of Earth's history. We don't have the science to predict whether that means you can Sun tan faster or we have a new Ice Age (either way it's very very bad).

Or the word "theory". In science it's as close to fact as you can ever get (e.g., gravity). It doesn't mean existing theory won't be superseded with more accuracy (e.g., special relativity). That's versus the layman's use of "theory" which means "could be true".

Tomorrow we'll be looking at whether it's true that monkeys make the best butlers.
