On-center steering feel

One complaint I have with the eps systems i've tried in regular BMWs is the on-center feel. They feel a tad vague, and you get a wandering sensation on the highway sometimes. The m3/4 reviews I've seen/read are a mixed bag on steering feel, but most are coming from the perspectve of driving it on a track.

Was curious about this "real world" aspect of the EPS in the M3.

I have driven Porche 991s with EPS and they feel normal to me on the highway, so I know its possible to do it right...

Have not driven an F80 yet however.

Feels pretty normal to me too. Depends on what setting you have it in as well. Sport is usually what im in. At the end of the day if im feeling tired and just want to get home, comfort is awesome. Sport+ is a bit heavy for everyday

I find this to be true as well though I'm not sure why? But seems to go away in sport.

I leave the steering in sport. It is interesting that the instructors at the PCD and "car know it alls" like Jeremy Clarkson recommend the comfort setting for track use.

That is interesting - I assume "comfort" steering - just like comfort throttle setting - simply allows for greater travel (of the trottle or steering wheel) relative to response (amount of gas being injected into the engine or turn rate)...

You don't have to wrestle with the steering wheel as much (i.e., it is not as "twitchy") in Comfort, which is nice in oversteer situations (where you want predictability and some smoothness with your input).

That is what Clarkson pointed out...what you said makes perfect sense.
