Thinking about handing over the keys to my E92 M3..
What's next!? This is what I'm battling with right now. Its hard to get out of other car for what you get out of an M3 for the price. I've had the car since 2011, making my M3 my longest owned vehicle. I go through cars quick, but this one was my favorite yet, making it really hard to sell it before. I already have two friends who are serious about buying it from me, so I'm not here to sell it quite yet. I promised one of them the car because they know the history and my attention to detail and upkeep.
You may have read about my popular thread about getting a 2013 motor replacement with 0 miles and extended warranty. Read Here: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=945034 The car itself has 10's of thousands of miles left since I have a new engine - so 1 option is to keep it and enjoy it for 50-60k more miles, then sell... Anyway, the question remains...If I sold, What's next? I'm humbly asking you all for your opinion, what is a good replacement to my M3? I don't plan on spending more than $60-$65k, and I want euro. So far I'm only thinking (2007) 997 TT or (2010+) C2S. I'm open to ideas & suggestions. Not sure I want to jump to an M4 or M5 - it seems too familiar. Never owned a P-Car.. What have some of you sold/selling your M3s for? My car has 64,000 miles. I saw this thread below, so it makes me feel pretty comfortable with retail and selling it to a friend since I know there shouldn't be any issues... (for a while ) BTW, the clutch measured at .89 MM or 90% left when they put the new engine in! http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=495566 Thank you, Justin

I would just keep it. If you want to be more sure, go and test drive a few of the others and then decide. I think it will be hard to beat unless you want a track monster.

I'd only give mine up for a Cayman GT4, although that's not happening for your $60-65K price range.
What confuses me is that you obviously seem reluctant to sell, yet you're making it sound like you have to for some unclear reason. If you still like the car, then save the cash and keep running it! If you do feel the need to investigate changing, it depends on what you're looking for. There are all kinds of experiences available in that price range: Corvette, 911, Cayman, C63, Shelby/Boss, maybe GT-R, and of course even more if you look below your price point, such as Miata, S2K, STi, BRZ, Mini JCW, Golf R, etc. Go test drive some cars that you imagine may be appealing, and that should tell you what grabs you and give you a sense of whether it's worth the cost to switch. But with something like a 997 TT, keep in mind that even if you find one for $60-65K, you'll still be paying to maintain a ~$150K car, so don't let the low cost of entry fool you.

Have you thought about adding a different car to the stable to help change it up a bit? I keep having dreams of adding an S2k or some other small, light, nimble, less powerful car. A combination that is the best of all worlds.

Not to derail your thread OP, but this is something I have been thinking about.... I see many people who extoll the virtues of owning an M3 and how much they love the car......they spend tens of thousands modding the car to death and then as soon as warranty is up or something like that they are quick to sell. I would like to know some of the reasons as to what or why some people sell their (beloved) car...... |

The only cars I'd consider giving up the m3 for would be a used 991s or a new Cayman gt4. I've also had mine since 2011 and it's the longest I've had a single car by far. Going to hold onto her for a few more years

I have an s2k right now in addition to the m3 and it really is a great combination. The s2k is fun and has a great 6mt, but I definitely grab the keys to the M 80% of the time

Good question. I can't think of anything I would want to replace the M3 with just yet. I also went through a few cars over the years but nothing has been like the M3. It really has everything...class, luxury, sportiness, and a sublime engine. I decided to finance the M instead of leasing because I plan on keeping her for a long time.
Once the car is paid off though, I would love to add a SUV to help out in the winter. (Or a f80 m3 )

Depends on what you want out of a car.
What's wrong with familiar when familiar is great? The M4 seems awesome except for the cheap sound of it. The powertrain is less of a rarity but the increase in power will make up for it as well as the new tech and modernity of it. I personally wouldn't entertain a 997 unless it was a 997.2 GT3. Even a still overpriced 997.2 GTS4 could potentially bore me because I'd sit there think how much greater a 991 would be. The RS5 can be had but aside from looks, I think it would be less exciting than the E92. I really don't think there's much of a car like it in the price range. You really have to change it up or pay more. |

Probably the truest reply I'll get. That's what I'm finding - Nothing can replace my car for the same price. I want 6-Speed, so Audi Rs5, Amg, etc is out. I really have to spend a lot more to upgrade.

$60-$65K? Nothing I'd rather own than my m3. Once we get into the $80-$100K range, then you'll have my attention.

I like cars more raw. Everything new is ehh, including Porsche (for the $$$ at least).
I went and bought a 2003 low mileage 911 Turbo to use daily. Mezger motor, and the bargain of the century right now. Lots of HP for little $$$. |

Find me a 997.2 GT3 for $65k, and I'll hand over cash!

Agreed. Aren't they all over $100k still? What has happened to the 997 GT3 RS is truly amazing. And the 4.0....forget about it. So rare in all aspects. This current Porsche bubble is insane to me. 993's going for 65-110 is insanity. RS's over 200k

Uhhhh tough one, If I were to get rid of my M3 right this moment it would be for a 997.1 or a 997.2 GT3 probably a 997.1
Or get something else to drive had an 05 STI made my M3 feel slow as hell but it was just a different feeling getting into the M3 made me appreciate it more lol |
