Squealing with Stoptechs
I installed a Stoptech ST60/ST40 kit over the winter on my e92. I did the full aggressive bed-in procedure but really didn't drive my car much after that for about 2 months. Now that I have started driving it regularly, there is a fair bit of squeal. Nothing crazy, but it is there every time I brake unless I brake really hard. There is no squeal with hard braking or braking at speed. Just with low speed braking. The brakes feel rock solid from a performance standpoint. Great bite, great stopping power and solid feel.
Is this to be expected with the Stoptech "Street Performance" pads? Do I need to re-bed? Do I need an anti-squeal compound? Thanks.

I didn't think the Street Performance pads required a thorough bed-in. Mine work fine with no squeal. Now my SR34 pads are an entirely different story and squeal all the time.
You may want to try the Posi Quiet Ceramics.

Same here, I have the STR40 front kit and no brake noise at all, other than when the pads corrode themselves to the rotor when they get wet. The Street Performance pads are definitely quiet, I'm not sure I have many other positive things to say about them, but they're quiet.

Would you mind elaborating on your above statement? I am getting ready to install a kit with ST street pads and would appreciate any insight you may have on them.

They have good initial bite when cold and are fine for the street, but I think the only reason they don't melt on the track when people use them with their BBK's is the big rotors do such a better job of getting rid of heat compared to the stock ones. The ST street pads seem really non-linear in response to me once they're hot. The initial bite goes away and you're left with a pedal that just kindof slows the car down but doesn't give you a lot of options on *how*. The OEM BMW pads, IMO, have better feel once they get hot (until they start to suck and die). It's fine for the street but it would piss me off constantly on a track. But that's why race pads are for the track and street pads are for the street.

Try bedding them in.
Are your rotors shinny or are they a dull grey finish? |

Shiny for sure in front. Rears seem a little dull by comparison. I did bed them once per stop tech recommendations, but it is easy enough to do again.
