Stock M4 Vert vs F10 M5
I went to work with an M5 today at various speeds, huge straight aways, a few wicked corners, obstacles, et al. Despite my vert, at no point did I feel uncompetitive - no way I was going to walk him, and there were a few 'ah crap he got me' moments, but overall I was pretty shocked at how evenly matched we were. I didn't know the guy and he gave me the thumbs up after about a 1/2 hour of run... I think he was pretty surprised too. The e93 would've gotten destroyed.

That's pretty awesome to hear - having a convertible and still being able to reasonably keep up with the F10 M5!! Lots of people truly underestimate the capability and fun of a convertible. There may be a difference on the track - but on the road it's going to be rare to truly notice the added weight (in fact, the added weight on the rear wheels and resultant extra traction offsets part of the weight disadvantage...)
I went sedan this time around given my kids are much older and bigger than when I bought my E93 7 years ago - love my sedan but do miss the ability to go top down in nice weather - enjoy! |

That's great to hear! My current plan is to do the ESS piggyback tuner to make up for the extra weight. Shocked to hear it can keep up with the M5 given the massive horsepower difference. But then again, pretty sure the M4 was underrated power wise.

Top down of course! That's the way I typically drive and I get used to the slight weight change with the top in the trunk - feels off with the top up but could totally be my imagination.

I think the key here is two things: (1.) pro driver to pro driver, not a contest or if, say, Randy Probst did 2 back-to-back track runs, (2.) gotta stay aggressive - more than once I caught him backing off a bit here or there "sleeping" ... he had less to prove than me We were "on" for about 1/2 hour straight which is awhile for me anyway, and a lot of gas! The point is, this is slick handling fast fecking car even at vacation weight.

I was thinking the same, as the M4 convertible is more than 500 lbs. heavier than the M4 coupe, and about one passenger shy of the weight of an M5.

332 lb weight difference. Not bad though... M5 makes 527 to the wheels stock. M4 made ~424 HP to the wheels. So about 100 HP difference... though about 30 of that comes off from the weight difference.
Given likely gearing difference and 70 HP.... I'm sure on regular roads it felt comparable, though 70 is still a decent difference, but not mind blowing.

No offense but the m5 would crush an m4 vert. M4 coupe or m3 would be equal or faster at,speeds up to 100 mph.
Guy was likely short shifting and just feathering throttle. I drive my friends m4 vert and it felt about on parnate with my last e92 when stock. Fbo e92 felt faster. |

Hi guys, this could have been me, I was just enjoying a smoothie driving along , totally unaware that an M4 Convertible was furiously trying to keep up with me. Not until the guy finally caught up to me at a light, all sweaty with crazy hair and yelled: 'can't believe I was able to keep up!'
