Dinan vs. BMW

So the Dinan tune is $1900 and BMW tune is $1350?
Any other options for tuning and still be under warranty?
I can see $1300 but not $1900

HP and torque gain divided by cost of each.

I would use that formula to make my decision. Since Dinan works directly with BMW you shouldn't have any warranty issues either way.

I have to jump in here... I had an M3 about 8 years ago that I did ONLY Dinan upgrades to. At 48k I had major issues with acceleration stuttering, and after a lot of back and forth, they decided it would not be covered under warranty... And I have heard of many people with denied claims because their issue was tied back to the software.

But isn't that because of claims of other mods done to the car that may affect it? If you only tune the motor there shouldn't be any denials. Now if you upgrade to non OEM parts I.e. FMIC, CP, Catless DP's all of that stuff then it may be a limiting factor

What is the difference between the two (torque and hp)? If you don't know where these numbers are different, you can't make an informed decision.

What are you looking for, exactly? A number or a characteristic? For example, I do a lot of city driving, so throttle response and low-end torque (at low RPM) are important to me. I could care less what the numbers are over 4,000 rpm because I never drive there (35d).

There actually wasn't one single piece of non dinan non BMW parts or accessories on the car.

@quattrospeed , Dinan should've stepped up and fulfill their agreement in that case. Or maybe that warranty thing is only a marketing gimmick?
Not to bash on Dinan, but I always think a warranty as an insurance. They ran away or charge you more when things actually happened.

I had my attorney's office check it out, there is nothing in writing ANYWHERE that says it's covered. There are dealerships that sell DINAN that also have service centers, and they do favors by covering things that were caused by DINAN mods. But the only line that BMW actually stands behind is BMW Performance.

Damn well I'm happy my dealership didn't screw me. They also have had a Dinan office in their service bay for the last 15 years I can remember

I don't want anyone to get confused... Purchased the vehicle from a dealer, who had a dinan rep and shop there... Had all the upgrades done.... Moved 1500 miles away... Had the issue, and the dealer who I took it to for service said they would not cover it, along with 5 other dealers in the area.

I paid around $1100 installed for the MPPK.
$1095 at Tischer and $30 bucks to install (it's just a software flash) Plus they have $50 off...

Is there something online I can show the dealership about install times on equipment? I think they are using an old guide and may not have the latest bulletin on install times for MPPK

I had my local dealership match Tischer BMW's aggressive pricing and quoted installed time by Evan @ Tischer. You should PM Evan for the install quote.

I think the installed prices on ShopBMW are incorrect for the MPPK. For the F15, the MPPK is just the flash and no other installed parts like the F30 MPPK

on the bmwusa website, it lists the MPPK @ $1,350 plus install.

at the local dealer website, im getting the following prices...

BMW M PERFORMANCE POWER KIT, INSTALLED $1,388.25
BMW M PERFORMANCE POWER KIT, UNINSTALLED $992.25

what do you guys make of this? is it negotiable anyway?

Dinan said that they are not responsible and said that they have spent millions in research and development, and in my case they cannot prove that the engine components were not faulty from the factory.

It bad misfires on cylinder 4 and 6 if i remember correctly.

I was quoted:

MPPK 1770$
Dinan stage 1: 2209$

Installed.

Does the Dinan stage 1 give a noticeable increase in exhaust sound?
