Alternator short - common?
Hey gang,
2013 E93 with 15000 miles here. Last week, as I was exiting the highway, the car threw itself in neutral and then park and basically the engine locked me out and wouldn't start. Lights and other electronics came on ok, and no malfunction indicators, and a slight burning smell from the engine bay. Tried unlocking/locking the car a few times thinking that maybe the antitheft system had disabled the starter, but nothing. Had the car towed to the dealership and after a week of looking at it, they replaced the battery and alternator and said the culprit was a short in the alternator. They've done a couple test drives and say the car is working just fine now. Was curious if anyone else has had this problem? I haven't picked the car up yet and wanted to see if there's anything else I should have them check. Thx!

Nope. Not driven through any water. Car is usually garaged and barely driven. And yes, it's DCT.
