I may have a slight obsession

My commute to work is mostly back county roads in involving many hills twists and turns. For the most part it's uneventful except for school buses. But one road in particular has been awful for years. Rim bending potholes litter the road. It's narrow with no runoff and blind corners/hills/crests. You sometimes have no choice but to hit a pothole and hope for the best. They have patched the road for years, but it's always a mess due to rain, snow, cold, and heavy use.

Today I am driving into work and I see they are finally starting to repave it.

I clapped the entire stretch of construction. If there was a safe place to pull off, I would have given the crew a standing ovation. This will all be done before my M3 returns stateside.

Anyone else get a little too excited over road improvements along their commute?

I thought I was the only one. I get so excited about road improvements and even more when a nearby vacant lot see construction of a new home that that mean less dust and runoff when it rains!

As a Mass resident, I feel comfortable responding on behalf of okroger... he's referring to the road improvements. The potholes are in abundance and the number will likely only go up.

I know the feeling. They just repaved 3+ miles worth of a major road that I drive on every single day to and from work. The roads were littered with potholes and damaged asphalt. Now it is as smooth as a baby's ass

They seem to be fixing roads around our residence as well, I feel like I should just stop by one day and buy the whole construction crew lunch

I don't get excited about road improvements because I'm 99.9999% sure they add in the potholes as part of the job. I've driven on plenty of freshly paved roads where I still had to dodge potholes. Our roads are so terrible.

I have seen this, but on this road in particular, anything will be an improvement.

Glad to know I'm not the only "crazy" one.

No road improvements in SC. They have been arguing here for years without result, so nothing gets done right.
Fortunately, I know all the current holes on the freeway......

They just built a new house on my road... They put utilities in and cut the entire street, leaving a 2 foot cut in the road.... Yeah this was 4 weeks ago, has it been repaved yet? NO

At one point the divet got so bad, i made a drinking game with my friends. We would drink when a car would pass by and run right through it... Many learned to slow down!

I love to see road improvements. I didn't realize how blessed the south was with our road conditions until I spent the last few years going to Michigan (Detroit area) to see the fiancé's family... I will never drive my car up there...ever.

Man, as a fellow PA resident, I am RIGHT there with you. Plenty of those around my neck of the woods (Chester County, bordering Montco).....I've been making lists of roads to avoid when my car gets here, and noticing those that are being repaved. I'm getting way too happy about it.

As excited as I get about well done repaved roads, I also get very pissed when they are actually doing the work. Traffic, roads are horrible while they are working on them, stones all over the place and will eventually find there way into my wheel well, sewer caps exposed like a speed bump. But besides that, yeah I get excited about well done repaved roads.

My street just got repaved last week so I totally understand. No potholes but you might as well sit on top of the car with a cowboy hat on. It drove my area crazy because just last summer they repaved the side streets and stop just short of mine.

In our minds we all say collectively: Its about damn time. :/

Seems I got a little ahead of myself. Looked at the road on they way home and they just replaced the outer third of the road.

Still an improvement but not a full fix. They also still need to do the other side.
