comfort access won't unlock

So, my CA has been touchy from time to time. Today, it downright failed.

When I leave the the car, I usually lock the car from the rear door touchpad as I walk past it. I unlock the door upon return by grabbing the driver door handle. The key stays in my pocket.

From time to time, the unlock doesn't work. Only using the button on the fob will unlock the door. Today was the first day we had warm weather in the 80s since I bought the car. I do not know if it's related, but the car would not unlock from the touchpad. In all instances I had to unlock with the fob. Once unlocked, the doors could be locked and unlocked with the touch-pads, until I walked away for a while.

If it continues, I'll take it to the dealer, but does anyone have insight to what might be going on? My E70 never had a single issue.

On another note of what not to do, last month the driver window was open and all other windows closed. I tossed my key into the car and they bounced over the center arm rest and fell between the passenger seat and console. No big deal, except the car was locked. The car would not unlock with the touchpad, or by reaching in and touching the lock/unlock button. I assume it knew the fob was in the car and somehow locked out these buttons, maybe a safety feature? I ended up climbing through the window and grabbing the fob to unlock the car.

Is this expected behavior? I passed it off as a feature, but I wonder if this is another symptom of what I experienced today.

My 2015 F15 is my third X5, and Ive never had a single issue with CA. Bring it in for service.

regarding your issue with throwing the keys inside...thats not a good idea.
With CA, the idea is to keep the keys on your person...if you have a habit of leaving the keys in the vehicle or throwing them inside you are asking for trouble.

Could be as simple as a weak battery in the fob. When you have to use the button on the fob to unlock, are you pulling it out of your pocket? Have you tried switching to the other key for a few days to see if you can reproduce the issue?

Hadn't thought of that, seeing as the car is 3 months old. I'll give it a try.

+1 for battery change. If that doesnt improve the CA functionality, bring it in for service. Have you tried your other key fob? Does it work properly?

I have ceramic tint on mine and have never had issues with the CA not opening for me. And couldn't you have reached in and opened the door using the interior door handle? That unlocks the door for me.

Another thing is I noticed if you have your cell phone in the same pocket as your key it could block the signal to the car thinking the key isn't near the car. This use to happen with my iphone and my 535.

I've heard the same. I have HuperOptik (nano-ceramic) tint on my Audi A4, and before I programmed by HomeLink, my garage clicker would not transmit through the side windows.

I too have noticed this. If I have my cell phone and keys in the same hand and try CA, its sporadic whether it works.

Sorry, should have said non dye and non ceramic tints. More specifically, metallic based tints (popular because they don't fade) have caused issues with CA and its a know issue. I have a ceramic based film on my car and haven't had any issues either.
